Don Cheadle To Narrate ‘Wonder Years’ Reboot At ABC

The Avengers star will be a part of the adult version of ABC’s Wonder Years reboot. Don Cheadle will play the adult version of the show’s lead character, Dean in the pilot.

This centers around a Black family in Montgomery, Alabama in 1968. Elisha ‘EJ’ Williams will be playing the younger version of Dean in the pilot. The character is inquisitive and hopeful who is coming of age in a difficult time. He will be trying to figure out his place withing his family as well as in the world.

The adult version will be voiced by Don and will be a new grandfather looking back on his childhood. He will be the narrator presumably telling his story while he was young. The cast also includes Dule Hill and Saycon Sengbloh as Dean’s parents and Laura Karluki as his older sister.

The original version of Wonder Years was narrated by Daniel Stern. It was from 1988 to 1993 and featured Fred Savage. Fred is the one who is directing the reboot and is also one of the executive producers.

Meanwhile, Saladin K. Patterson who is known for his role in The Big Bang Theory wrote the pilot of the reboot. Lee Daniels and Marc Velez of Lee Daniels Entertainment and Savage will act as executive producers for the venture. The consultant of the show will be Neal Marlens, who had also co-created the original series.

Cheadle’s Prominent Role in the MCU

Don is well-known for his role in Showtime’s Black Monday which is currently running as well as for his role in the Avengers franchise. He is also currently a part of the Marvel series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Oscar and Emmy nominee plays James Rhodes in the MCU. Some of his other work includes House of Lies, the Ocean’s franchise, and Devil in a Blue Dress.

Don is also getting his own show where he will be reprising his role as War Machine in a new Marvel Studios Disney+ series Armor Wars. His character of Colonel James Rhodes has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the beginning of time.

Although Don wasn’t playing James until Iron Man 2 as he had replaced Terrence Howard. The actor has been able to suit up as War Machine in various films. All of his appearances have been connected to his friendship with Iron Man aka Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr.

After the death of Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, War Machine’s future was unclear in the MCU. However, when Marvel Studios revealed the Phase 4 slate of movies lined up as well as Disney+ shows, there were no projects that confirmed he will be a part of anything.

There was a probability of War Machine returning but it was only expected to be in the supporting capacity as well. Marvel had made attempts of creating a War Machine solo film, but it never came into being. But fortunately, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios confirmed that one of the new MCU Disney+ shows in the words will be a series that includes Don’s War Machine.

Don Gets His Own Marvel Show, Armor Wars

The series is based on the seven-issue comic run and is named Armor Wars. It will be written by David Michelinie and Bob Layton from 1987 to 1988. The story of War Machine follows Iron Man in the comics after the Stark tech is stolen. Although, this show will have War Machine at the center of it all.

War Machine will act as one of the many chances for Marvel to incorporate elements from the MCU’s past present and future. In the comics, Tony was working with Scott Lang to find out who stole his tech, and Avengers: Endgame helped establish a connection between Ant-Man and War Machine.

James Rhodey is not as tech-savvy as Tony and he will likely need all the help he can get. This means Scott Lang might be helping him track down the missing pieces. He might also reach out to Riri Williams who is also getting a solo Ironheart Disney+ series.

The storyline will include Justine Hammer to acquire Tony’s stolen designs. This might also be an open window for MCU to bring back Same Rockwell as the villain from Iron Man 2. However, since the news has just been announced, it is still unclear as to what can be the probabilities of any of the information being confirmed.
