Doctor Who Fame Catherine Tate To Produce Upcoming Netflix Comedy ‘Hard Cell’

Netflix is teaming up with the Doctor Who fame Catherine Tate. The star will be producing her first ever series on Netflix.

The project will be a six-part comedy series called Hard Cell which will be filmed in a mockumentary fashion telling a story about a women’s prison.

Catherine Tate is also widely popular for her painting series The Catherine Tate Show.

Hard Cell is produced by Argonon-backed Argonon, behind Mackenzie Crook’s BBC program Worzel Gummidge.

Producer Kristian Smith said: “We cannot wait to show audiences on Netflix the inside of HMP Woldsley, our fictional prison occupied by the fantastic creations of Catherine Tate. This series is funny and touching all at once, revealing what life might be like in a British women’s correctional facility.”

“Tate plays many characters as a group of documentary makers follow inmates and staff of HMP Woldsley capturing the penal system at its brutal humorous best.”

Cast Members

The featuring cast members of Hard Cell are Catherine Tate who will be starring several characters in a six-part series.

She will be joined by other actors who include Christian Brassington (Poldark) as Dean; Niky Wardley (Call Midwife) as Anastasia; Lorna Brown (Devil) as Cal; Caroline Harding (Coronation Street) as Sal; Jola Olajide (Power) as Charlee; and Duncan Wisbey (Close to the Enemy) as Martin.

Episodes And Release Date

Netflix Hard Cell commenced production on June 30, 2021 in the UK according to 1258 of Production Weekly. There is currently no assured date about the wrap.

The deadline has reported that Hard Cell will consist of six episodes in total and will be a limited series, unless Netflix decides to renew it for another season later on.

Netflix has not yet set a date for the release of Hard Cell, but with only six episodes to be produced, it will arrive sometime in 2022.
