Dakota Johnson To Star In Netflix Adaptation of Persuasion By Jane Austen

Dakota Johnson has been roped in to star in Netflix’s retelling of Jane Austen’s novel, Persuasion.

Carrie Cracknell will be going behind the camera in her feature directorial debut. She was known for directing Jake Gyllenhaal in Sea Wall/ A Life on Broadway. The screenplay has been conformed by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow.

Persuasion is described as a “modern, witty approach” to a beloved story. It revolves around Anne Elliot who is a different woman living with her family on the brink of bankruptcy. The character is unmarried and 27-years-old as she reconnects with a man she was once refused. She is facing a second chance at love in the book.

The book turned out to be the last novel written by Jane. She is the author of classics like Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Emma. This was before her death in 1817 and the property has been accommodated for the screen numerous times. It includes the 2007 TV movie starring Sally Hawkins.

Another production of Persuasion is in the works which is called Succession. It features Sarah Snook. The venture is currently in the works at Searchlight Pictures. It is being directed by Mahalia Belo and written by Jessica Swale. The production of Netflix’s iteration is expected to start in May.

MRC Film is developing the movie with Netflix. the studio had backed Knives Out and The Lovebirds. Andrew Lazar and Christina Weiss Lurie will serve as producers. Executive producers include Elizabeth Cantillon via her untitled MRC Film Romance label, Michael Constable and David Fliegel.

Dakota was last seen in the drama Our Friend along with Jason Segel, and Casey Affleck. She will appear next in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter and Stephanie Allynne and Tig Notaro’s Am I Ok?
