Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Infertility & Moving Ahead After Loss
Chrissy Teigen is getting candid about her struggles with infertility. In a recent interview with Refinery 29, the model shared that she did not realize how little it was talked about until she herself shared her story.
The entrepreneur revealed that she has been open about so many things throughout her life and infertility does not seem like a crazy thing to talk about. However, she realized the more she spoke about it, that the topic was more taboo. She said, “I’ve been open about so much throughout my life, and so [infertility] didn’t seem like a crazy thing to talk about. But the more I spoke about it, the more I realized how taboo it was,”
The cookbook author further added that she was getting DMs, letters, and emails quietly. She shared that people were not talking about it openly but they were happy to do it privately. The model said, “But quietly, I was getting DMs and letters — like handwritten letters — and emails. I realized that people didn’t think they could talk about it on an open forum, but they were happy to do it privately. I realized people don’t feel comfortable talking about this.”
Chrissy recently joined RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association and Ferring Pharmaceuticals to launch Fertility Out Loud. This new campaign was designed to help people who are struggling to start or grow their families. It is also a cause that hits too close to home for the model who lost her son, Jack when she was 20 weeks pregnant.

“Music for us is so healing, and I think it’s going to be a really beautiful summer…”
“In the Thai culture, you’re very open about death and speaking about death and loss and when someone passes, they’re still very much a part of your life,” Teigen explained. “I’ve kind of been bouncing back and forth between that Thai tradition of keeping your loved one close but also wanting to release him and wanting him to be a part of the Earth again — just spiritually wanting him to be a part of the universe again.”
Chrissy and John have not yet decided where and when they will spread Jack’s ashes, however, the model shared John has a song in the making that takes her right back to the heartbreaking moment. The cookbook author feels that music heals and will release a bit of grief that she and her family faced over the last year.
She shared, “Music for us is so healing, and I think it’s going to be a really beautiful summer and the year coming up, with being able to release grief and loss. It’s going to be really transformative and amazing.” In another interview with Today, the model shared more about that emotional moment and how sharing her story had impacted women.
Chrissy said there was one moment that really struck her and that was being at the grocery store and someone just quietly laying flowers in my cart. She explained she realized that there are so many women that do not get this kind of attention because people don’t know that it happened to them.

“Coming to terms with the fact that I can’t carry again has been something really tough…”
Teigen continued, “They’re living through this privately and quietly, and it just was a big moment for me where I realized that I could be this person that people could see and look up to as somebody that had a platform, where their stories were going to be recognized. For me, that was a very defining moment.”
Even after her struggles with fertility and being told that she cannot carry a baby safely anymore, she still wants to expand her family. She shared there are a number of ways to make your dream happen. The model added coming to terms with the fact that she cannot carry again has been tough. She said, “Coming to terms with the fact that I can’t carry again has been something really tough, and I’ve agonized over it because to me, it’s when I’m at my happiest. I loved being pregnant, and the fact I got to do it twice, I think was miraculous enough.”
Chrissy shared that there is a way to have that beautiful child whether on your own or whether you adopt. The model explained that she thinks the more people share their stories, the more others will realize that they connect with those stories. She said, “There’s something so beautiful about that.”
