Blue Ivy Carter Narrates Children’s Book ‘Hair Love’

Blue Ivy Carter is thriving as she adds another title to her remarkable work already. The daughter of Beyonce and Jay-Z recently narrated the audiobook for Hair Love. The story is based off of Matthew A. Cherry’s short film which also won an Oscar.

The children’s book is about loving your natural hair and also celebrates the relationship between a Black father and his daughter. The story is also about the father trying to do his daughter’s hair for the first time.

Matthew received an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film back in February. The creator had posted a sample of the narration of Blue Ivy. Blue’s grandmother, Tina Lawson, expressed how proud she was of the little 8-year-old.

“WOW!!! I heard My Granddaughter’s narration!! She killed it!!!!” Tina Instagrammed alongside a picture of the book cover. She further added that she cannot wait to download her voice reading the ‘Hair Love’ audiobook.

Tina wrote, “I cannot wait to download her voice reading it!!!!!! The ‘Hair Love‘ audiobook is now live. Narrated by Blue Ivy Carter ????????????.”

Matthew and producer Karen Rupert Tolliver have been vocal about representation in animation. The duo also spoke about the importance of representation in animation at the Oscars, after winning the award.

Hair Love was done because we wanted to see more representation in animation,” Cherry said. “We wanted to normalize black hair.” This is not the first time Blue has made her parents proud. She had won a BET award with her mother for ‘Brown Skin Girl’. The song was from Beyonce’s The Lion King: The Gift album.

Beyonce Drops Music Video Of ‘Brown Skin Girl

It features Wizkid and Saint Jhn. The star uploaded the video as a standalone visual on YouTube. It had previously only been available to Disney+ subscribers as a part of Beyoncé’s most recent musical film, Black Is King. Which dropped exclusively on the streaming service at the end of last month.

In the artsy video, Beyoncé enlists various famous faces. Including Naomi Campbell, Lupita Nyong’o, Adut Akech, and her former Destiny’s Child band-mate Kelly Rowland.

All of whom she name drops on the song to sing the praises of black beauty identity and heritage. Alongside her 8-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, who sings on the opening and closing of the track.

“Brown Skin Girl” first appeared on Beyoncé’s 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift, which went hand in hand with Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King. For which Beyoncé provided the voice of Nala alongside Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen, and many others.
