August Alsina recently got candid in an interview with Angela Yee. The singer sat down for an hour long interview with The Breakfast Club host where they conversed on a number of topics. During the conversation, August addressed the rumors that he and Jada Pinkett-Smith were romantically linked at some point. In a shocking revelation he added that Will smith, Jada’s current husband, gave August Alsina his “blessing” to date Jada.
August Alsina, 27, was first introduced to Jada, 48, in 2015 by her son Jaden. The two became very close. Vacationing with the family in Hawaii in 2016 and attending the 2017 BET Awards together. However, August Alsina suggested that she was more like a mentor. She helped him recover from drug addiction and gave him life advice. But their close-knit relationship made quite a few fans suspicious. August Alsina added fuel to the romance rumors, in 2018. The singer posted a tribute to Jada for her 47th birthday, describing her as “God’s divinity.”
Rumors of a relationship between August Alsina and Jada have circulated for quite some time now. While the two have stated that they are merely friends, fans have always speculated that there was more between them. Fans even think Alsina’s 2019 song “Nunya” was written about the actress. However, the artist denied such claims.
“People can have whatever ideas that they like, but what I’m not OK with is my character being in question,” the singer said. “Contrary to what some people may believe, I’m not a troublemaker. I don’t like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous,” August Alsina said. “I also don’t think that it’s ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date. Right? But, in this instance, it’s very different. Because as I said there are so many people that are side-eyeing me, looking at me questionable about it.”
“He gave me his blessing”
“I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation. Due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership that they’ve spoken on several times and it not involving romanticism. He gave me his blessing,” he explained. August is referencing a July 2018 interview where Will said he and his wife no longer call themselves married. They refer to each other as “life partners.”
Going on, August Alsina continued, “I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life. And I truly and really, really, deeply loved, and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it. So much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody and I really loved a person. I experienced that.”
“It broke me down”
When asked how he felt about Jada’s silence over the years, August Alsina said he didn’t mind that she has never fully addressed their relationship.
“I never could even get into the thought of that because I’m only responsible for myself. I’m only responsible for what I do when I’m repressing things and it starts to affect me,” he said. He added of the Smith family, “I love those people literally like my family. I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. They are beautiful people.”
“I have literally never been in love in that kind of way. So much so that being intertwined in that way and walking away from it butchered me. It broke me down,”
August Alsina became emotional while discussing the passing of his sister, he talked about becoming a parent and raising his sister’s children. He opened up about his health struggles. Feeling as if he was actually going to die at certain points. He also delivered words of wisdom about his personal growth and his new album, The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy.
