Andrew Garfield Reveals His Favorite Spider-Man Actor (It’s Not Him)

Andrew Garfield just revealed who his favourite Spider-Man actor is, but it’s not himself. After Tobey Maguire in the Sam Raimi trilogy at the start of 2000; Garfield was the second actor to play the Marvel web-slinger in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel in 2012. Tom Holland, who first appeared in the MCU’s Captain America: Civil War and has since appeared in multiple subsequent crossover films as well as a trilogy of solo adventures; has now taken over the role.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland’s third solo picture, will be released in theatres on December 17. However, whether Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their Spider-Man roles in the film has been a source of great discussion. Because the film follows Peter Parker requesting Doctor Strange to make it so that his secret identity is never exposed to the world; the spell goes awry, unleashing the multiverse on the MCU, this is a possibility.

Peter will have to contend with a slew of villains from past Spider-Man universes; including Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock; Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman from the Raimi trilogy, as well as Rhys Ifans’ Lizard; Jamie Foxx’s Electro from the Amazing Spider-Man films.

Andrew Garfield saw a tweet from a guy named Sam during a GQ video when he went undercover online to answer to fans; saying that Tobey Maguire was better at portraying Peter Parker than Spider-Man; Andrew Garfield was better at playing Spider-Man, and Tom Holland was a decent blend of both. Because “that’s [his] youth,” Garfield confessed that Tobey Maguire is his favourite.

Andrew’s Friend Said He Will Never Play Spider-Man

He then went on to recount a story about being high with a friend and watching three times the 2002 Spider-Man flick. “You’ll never play Spider-Man,” his pal warned him as they spoke the lines together. Garfield burst up laughing. “And now… here we are”. Here’s the rest of the quote:

Cool, man. Fine. Whatever. Like, cool. That’s your opinion, bro. Climb a tree. Tobey’s my favorite, right? Cuz that’s my childhood… I think I watched the first Spider-Man film back to back like three times with my friend Terry… And we were just incredibly high and we would, like, do the lines to each other and he was just cracking up in my face saying, “you’ll never play Spider-Man.” And now, Sam, here we are.

Andrew Garfield’s appearance in No Way Home has yet to be formally confirmed. The new Spider-Man teaser, which was released on Tuesday; was supposed to announce his involvement, but it didn’t. Despite behind-the-scenes photographs implying the opposite, those involved have continuously denied that any additional Spider-Man actors will appear; generating a slew of confusion among fans anxiously anticipating the crossover film.

Andrew Garfield appears to have leapt at the chance to work with Tobey Maguire based on the evidence in this video. Because of the rapid turnaround on Spider-Man reboot projects, it’s no surprise that Garfield prefers Maguire. He was the ideal age to have grown up with the original trilogy while also being mature enough to play the role when the opportunity arose.
