Allison Janney Talks Anna Farris Leaving ‘Mom’ And The Impact It Will Have
Allison Janney has opened up about Anna Farris’ impact on leaving their show Mom. The actress describes it as a huge loss for the show.
She said not having Anna because she was a part of creating her character on the show and everyone fell in love with it. Allison shared how her character was so loveable, warm, gullible, and funny and they will miss her. The Oscar winner actress revealed in an interview on November 2.
She further added, “I think I’ll miss the most, for me, the relationship between Bonnie and Christy, even though that will still continue. But she won’t be present. That’s what I’ll miss.”
Both Allison and Anna worked together as mom and daughter on their show Mom. They played the characters of Bonnie and Christy respectively since 2013. The series was about a single mom and her daughter who is a recovering addict trying to turn her life around. As Anna’s character is trying to make things better, her mother played by Allison’s character re-enters her life.
CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions as well as Warner Bros. Television confirmed on September 4 that Anna will be leaving the show. They described her portrayal of her character Christy as ‘beautiful’. The network also wished her the best moving forward.
Anna also paid tribute to her character and bid farewell after appearing in seven seasons. She said in a statement that the past seven years on Mom has been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of her career.
“I’ll Be Watching Next Season And Rooting For My TV Family.”
The actress further added, “I’m so thankful to Chuck [Lorre], the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I’ll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family.”
The Mom cast had returned to the set on September 14 when Anna’s exit news came out. Allison had shared a video on her social media giving us a look at how the crew is maintaining safety and following the Covid-19 protocols.
The actress had a face mask on as she shared how excited they are for season 8 to begin and that everyone is here and it’s like new territory. Jaime Pressly also shared how the show will change since Anna’s exit as he has been a part of the show since season 2 as well.
“It’s become a show about a group of women in recovery and the relationships between these beautifully flawed women, and so we’re all very tight,” the My Name Is Earl alum shared. The actress added how they are missing one of the main links as all of them have been together for so long.
Further adding she said that they still talk about the character of Christy, Bonnie and still speak on the phone with Anna. The actress said, “We still talk about the character Christy. Bonnie, Allison Janney’s character, still speaks with her on the phone and will relay the things that Christy’s doing or saying to us so we kind of feel like she’s still there.”
The 8th season of Mom will be premiering on CBS on November 5 at 9 pm. ET.
