House of the Dragon, a Game of Thrones prequel, has been cancelled
Following a positive COVID case, HBO’s highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has halted production. Even before the final season of Game of Thrones aired, HBO expressed interest in creating spin-offs set in the universe created by George R.R. Martin for his Song of Ice and Fire series.
Despite the fact that the first effort, a pilot called The Long Night starring Naomi Watts, was ultimately passed aside, HBO is now working on a number of projects. House of the Dragon is HBO’s first spin-off to go into full production.
Production Shuts Down
House of the Dragon is based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel and tells the story of House Targaryen beginning when King Viserys (Paddy Considine) is on the throne. Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, and Sonoya Minuzo also star in the prequel.
The majority of the casting took place last year, and the filming of House of the Dragon began in April. The project is now scheduled to launch in 2022, though development has encountered a block.
According to Deadline, the House of the Dragon set in the United Kingdom has been put on hold for two days due to a positive COVID case in Zone A, which apparently includes cast and crew. As per the stated guidelines, the positive production member, as well as those who came into contact with them, is currently isolated. On Wednesday, filming is expected to resume.
