Hailing from Canada, Jesssie Reyez is a well-known and highly influential singer and songwriter. Many of her songs have topped the Billboard Hot 100 list cementing her name as one of the best singers in the industry.

Early Life

Jessie is the stage name of Jessica Reyez. As of 2021, she is thirty years old. Jessica Reyez was born on June 13, 1991 in Canada, Jane and Finch area in Ontario.

Early on in her life, Jessie’s father introduced her to the world of music giving her a guitar in her hands. Jessie Reyez used to play around with the strings and eventually developed interest in music. By the time she was in high school, she began writing and playing her own music.

Jessi Reyez decided not to continue with college after graduating. She started running errands alongside pursuing a career in music. The young Jessica was determined and passionate to crush her goals.

In 2012, she moved to Florida with her family. After staying there two years, she was back to Toronto as she got accepted to The Remix Project’s Academy of Recording Arts. She got a lot of exposure here because her music reached well-known artists like King Louie and Daniel Daley.

Making It To The Top Charts

Reyez released a joint single with American rapper and actor King Louie in 2014 titled Living in the Sky. The song was a mega hit and Jessie released her second single named It Hurts (Selena) the following year.

Her talent was now in front of the world. Jessica Reyez started producing back-to-back hit songs. In 2017, she released her debut EP titled ‘Kiddo’. This song went on to rank amongst Top 90 on the Canadian Album Charts.

Another single by Jessie featured 57th on Canadian Hot 100 charts. The song was called ‘Figures’. It was certified triple platinum by the Canadian music authority.

Awards And Honors

With the kind of music Jessica was releasing, it was bound to get her material rewards. Jessie Reyez was named on the Long List of 2017 Polaris Music Prize. She was nominated in four categories at 2018 Juno Awards as well: The breakthrough artist of the year, Juno Fan Choice Award, and Video of the year.

In 2017, iHeartRadio Music Video Awards nominated her for Best New Canadian Artist and Fan Fave Video for Shutter Island.

Jessie performed her hit-single named Figures at the 2017 BET Awards. Later that year, she made news headlines by signing a record and publishing deal with Island Records.

Collab With Eminem And Others

Jessie’s musical career hit a jackpot when she got the opportunity to collab with one of the best rappers of all time, Eminem in the album Kamikaze in songs Nice Guy and Good Guy. Both the songs went on to top the Billboard Hot 100 Charts.

After this super thrilling song, Jessie Reyez also released a new single titled Imported which featured rapper 6lack. Imported was certified Gold by both RIAA and Music Canada.

Reyez starred as a cameo appearance in the Netflix film called Someone Great. She also appeared on The Lion King: The Gift, performing with 070 Shake and co-writing the song “Scar”.

Grammy Nomination

Billboard named Reyez one of the “10 Hip-Hop and R&B Artists to Watch in 2018”. She was nominated at the Grammy Awards. Things were going well for the multi-talented Jessie Reyez.

She got to open for Billie Eilish’s world tour ‘Where do we go?’.

Reyez is also nominated for five awards at this year’s Juno Awards. The categories that she is nominated in include Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, with two of her music videos nominated in Video of the Year race. 

She performed at the ceremony and won Video of the Year for “No One’s in the Room”, which was directed by Emma Higgins.
