Brooklyn Nine-Nine To Premiere Its Season Finale In August
NBC has announced that the eighth and final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will premiere on August 17. The television series was about a bunch of whacky cops in a fictional NYC precinct.
It is led by Andy Samberg and Terry Crews since its premiere in 2013. The show was the mainstay in Fox before it was cancelled and picked up by NBC. Previously, both Andy and Terry revealed that since the corrupt police officers amid the Black Lives Matter movement, the show was trying to navigate how to move ahead.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine ran for five seasons on Fox and was cancelled. However, it was picked up by NBC after fans requested it. The sixth season was then picked up by NBC and it aired in 2019. The seventh season aired last spring amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and was then halted for the next season.
News of the comedy show ending came this year in February and the premiere date is now being announced through social media. “8 years, 32 sex tape titles, 4,279 cools and 1 EPIC final season! #Brooklyn99 returns August 12 on NBC,” the Twitter post read. A clip of different snippets was included of the cast talking about their journey over the past eight years.
Joe Truglio who plays the iconic character of Charles Boyle said a lot has happened in eight years. “That’s quite a lot,” SNL funnyman Samberg said of his lengthy run as Det. Jake Peralta. And Crews (Lieutenant Terry Jeffords) chimed in “We had so much fun,” while Andre Braugher (Police Captain Raymond Holt) exclaimed: “It’s been an incredible ride.”
“We’re all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now..”
Terry, Andre and Andy had acknowledged the unrest surrounding police reform and the Black Lives Matter movement. The show was said to be evaluating how to move forward for the new and last season. Andy revealed that they are taking a step back and the writers are all rethinking how they are going to move ahead.
“We’re all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally okay about. I know that we’ll figure it out, but it’s definitely a challenge, so we’ll see how it goes,” he said.
Terry also echoed a similar statement as he said the writers had to start over and dumped four episodes worth of material amid the ongoing situation. The actor revealed having “sombre” talks and deep conversations with everyone. He said it is to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year.
“We’ve had a lot of sombre talks about it and deep conversations and we hope through this we’re going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year. We have an opportunity and we plan to use it in the best way possible,” Crews shared.
The eighth season will premiere the first two of 10 episodes, back to back on Thursday August 12.
