The Meaning Behind Selena Gomez’s Rodarte Dress Revealed
Selena Gomez has revealed the meaning behind the dress in her music video for De Una Vez. She was not just wearing a pretty dress but it had more significance than we would think.
The music video was dropped on January 14. The Rodarte pink dress with floral print and a glowing heart at the center held special meaning. It was a reflection of the overall theme of the singer’s Spanish video. The music video was made for anyone who has had their heartbroken.
She revealed in an interview with Vogue published on January 18. The Rare Beauty founder shared that to immerse herself into a project that was inspired by the Latin culture, she wanted to work with native Spanish speaking creators.
The singer explained that she turned towards the creative team of Tania Verduzco and Adrian Perez. They knew how to reflect the singer’s heritage into her dress. The duo explained that they wanted to play with powerful language and images.
Tania shared that they designed the heart and its light to be a metaphor for healing. She said, “We wanted to play with powerful language and images. We designed the heart—we call it the Milagro in Mexican culture—and it’s light to be a metaphor for the healing throughout the story,”
Even the heart and flowers on the Rodarte dress also had a deeper meaning. The designer further explained how they wanted to have these connections to create a look as well as play with flowers like Frida did. However, they wanted to make it more modern and cool right now.

“I love the role nature plays in the video as well and how it represents healing and growth”
She explained, “We wanted to have these connections, to create this look, and to play with the amazing flowers the way Frida did, but making it modern and cool for right now. The flowers on the dress, hair, and within the video all connect with this idea of renewal.”
The flowers were not just present on Selena’s dress or hair but it was also blooming throughout the bedroom. “I love the role nature plays in the video as well and how it represents healing and growth. How it represents healing and growth,” the Same Old Love singer said.
She hoped that the message of hope comes across after acknowledging the pain and hurt of people. The singer’s songs about heartbreak have been widely relatable for fans everywhere. This era came after her split with her longtime on-again and off-again ex, Justin Bieber.
Fans do believe that this was what inspired Selena to make her comeback song last year. She came back with the superhit song, Lose You to Love Me. De Una Vez is the singer’s first-ever single in Spanish solo.
