Gorkha, biography of Major General Ian Cardozo, is Akshay Kumar’s new film

Films about war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country frequently motivate us, and Akshay Kumar’s latest film, Gorkha, is scheduled to tell one such story.

On the occasion of Dussehra, Akshay revealed his next project with director-producer Aanand L Rai, which is a biopic based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, an iconic combat hero of the Indian Army’s Gorkha regiment (5th Gorkha Rifles). Akshay Kumar will star in the film and play the renowned war hero on screen.

Biography of Major General Ian Cardozo

On Dussehra, Akshay shared his first look like the war hero on his social media accounts. In the posters, Akshay appeared to be a terrifying soldier about to march into battle with the enemy.

Akshay shared the first look posters on Instagram, writing, “Sometimes you come across stories that make you want to create them. One such film is #Gorkha, which is based on the life of great war hero Major General Ian Cardozo. It’s an honor to play the part of an icon and showcase this unique picture.”

Aanand L Rai told Hindustan Times that he was eager to work with Akshay for the third time after Atrangi Re and Raksha Bandhan. He also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to tell the story of the 1971 war hero.

Major General Ian Cardozo, for those who are unaware, is a decorated military hero whose bravery and sacrifice for the country during the 1971 war is an inspiration. He has also written a number of books, including 1971: Stories of Grit and Glory from the Indo-Pak War. Akshay Kumar will play him in the biopic, which will be helmed by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Major General Ian Cardozo AVSM SM also came out about the film, saying, “On the 50th anniversary of the 1971 war, I am honored to have this story recounted. It honors India’s armed forces for their bravery and sacrifice. I’m excited to collaborate with Aanand and Akshay on bringing this to life. This incident exemplifies the ideals and spirit of every Indian Army officer.”

Gorkha is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma and will be presented by Akshay Kumar and Aanand L Rai jointly.
