Shang-Chi Director Hopes Cut Fight Scene Appears In Future MCU Movie

Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings revealed how he hopes a fight scene that ended up getting cut will appear in the future MCU movie. Shang-Chi introduces the Master of Kung Fu to the MCU as phase 4 of the universe begins.

The movie revolves around the main character, Shang-Chi who has been forced to confront his father; Wenwu or the real Mandarin. His father runs a criminal organization which is known as Ten Rings. This marks Marvel Studios’ first Asian lead as Simu Liu leads a predominantly Asian-American cast.

This includes Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Michelle Teoh, Benedict Wong and Fala Chen. Marvel’s latest movie seems to blow everything before out of the water. Simu had a background in Taekwondo, Wing Chun and gymnastics and did the majority of his stunts in Shang-Chi. It pays tribute homage to classic martial arts films.

The movie’s promotional campaign has combat which sees a scene on a city bus where Shang-Chi reveals his skills to Katy (Awkwafina). This is a sequence Simu revealed took four weeks to shoot and is his favourite. Destin talked about Comicbook in a recent interview as he talked about Shang-Chi’s action scenes.

The director was asked if there were any fight scenes he would love to make the cut; which wasn’t included in the movie. He said that there was a scene that was cut and hopes it will make into a future film. Destin explained, “Yeah, there’s one fight scene. All of our action sequences, I think, what I love about them is they each take place in very unique environments; and the setting is as much a character to the fight sequences as the opponents who are fighting in them”.

The director added, “There was one setting that we were not able to do in this movie; but I won’t say what it is because I really hope that we get to do it again in another film”. The film’s cultural legitimacy is at its peak because it has Brad Allen as the leader of the film’s stunt team. The stunt leader has worked with Jackie Chan before and crafted stunts that tell a story as well as utilize physical gags.

Shang-Chi will return to the MCU sooner than later and so will the talent that brought his story to life.
