Katy Perry Talks Taylor Swift Feud, Pregnancy and battling depression
Katy Perry opened up about a lot of things going on in her life in a recent tell all interview with Howard Stern, on SiriusXM. The Daisies singer touched upon her feud with Taylor swift, talked babies, education, battling depression and her lovely fiancee.
“We made up publicly to be an example of redemption”
Katy Perry has dished out some more insight on her once rocky relationship with fellow singer, Taylor Swift. Perry shared how the two put their differences behind them in order to set an example to young women. Katy was glad that her public feud with Swift got squashed so that the two successful women could display an example of redemption for young girls.
“It’s hard for young girls, growing up [with] cliques and high school and pettiness and all that stuff, so now we’re super friendly and I’ve always wanted the best for her and we can talk about the best we want for each other,” she continued.
“Gossip and lies, they take the elevator. But truth takes the stairs. time will tell my story,” Perry, said while discussing the past feud. “What I’m so grateful for is that we did get to make up and we made up publicly to be an example of redemption.”
The Smile singer and the Blank Space hitmaker were previously at loggerheads for several years before they smoothed things out in 2018. The peace flag waved high when Perry made a surprise appearance in Swift’s 2018 music video for “You Need to Calm Down.”
Nonetheless, the pair’s public reconciliation shocked fans while making the desired impact and statement.
“If the baby is anything like her mom she’ll arrive late”
Perry, who is soon to be a first time mom, talked about her pregnancy journey. Although Perry didn’t reveal her due date, she did say the baby is coming “soon” and, thankfully, she’s “not anxious at all about it. “I feel super blessed,” she said, admitting that, physically, she’s had a really easy pregnancy but if the baby is anything like her mom she’ll arrive late.
Katy also made it a point to shout out fellow music star and mom-to-be, Nicki Minaj, who recently announced that she’s expecting her first child. Perry who has worked with Minaj on a collaboration for her single, Swish Swish, had an on-the-spot remix idea for Minaj. Which would definitely be much more appropriate right now. “I thought a good version of this song now would be Push, Push Bish,” joked the singer.
“One of my life goals is to go to Oxford College and continue my education.”
Catching up on all the 12 years that have passed since they last talked, Stern wondered if Perry ever feels like she’s missed out on going to college.
The singer who has spent most of her life in the music business revealed, “One of my life goals is to go to Oxford College and continue my education.” Perry, who has been making music in some form or another since she was nine, couldn’t continue her education for the same. The singer doesn’t feel like she’s missed out, but she “super duper” wants to further her education and study psychology and philosophy at some point.
Looney Tunes Times
A large portion of the chat centered on mental health and Perry’s emergence from a crippling depression several years ago. She talked about her upcoming album Smile, saying, “This record has been interesting to put out because it’s during these Looney Tunes times. It’s during a pandemic, a racial revolution, an election year and I’m delivering a baby at the same time,” Perry said, none of which she had originally planned on.
Katy has previously addressed her period of clinical depression after the unexpected failure of her 2017 album, Witness. Perry said she got out of the loop of being a “desperate, thirsty” pop star who needed to be No. 1 all the time.
In her new album cover, she is seen as a clown because she remembered that her music has always had a playful side which somehow got lost. “A smile is such an indication of mental health, a physical alert of your mental health,” she said, recalling a time when she felt ashamed for being on medication to soothe her depression.
“I was like, ‘I wrote ‘Firework!'” she joked, referring to her uplifting, motivational 2017 hit. “But it was one of those things where I’d sprained my brain a little bit.”
“He’s the only one that could handle it”
Perry credited her fiancee, Orlando Bloom, for supporting her through all the ups and downs of her mental health struggles, which saw her contemplate suicide at one point. Bloom even accompanied her to a week-long stay at the Hoffman Institute. Which she said focuses on, “re-wiring of your neural pathways through psychological and spiritual exercises.”
The singer was all praise for her actor beau who has been tolerant and understanding of her moods. “He’s the only one that could handle it and that’s why we’re in this position,” she told Stern. “I showed him all of it. And I still test him and he still shows up and he still is not phased by it and that’s why he is perfect for me. Because I’m a lot!”
