Production on The Witcher: Blood Origins Prequel Show Has Begun, and a New Cast Has Joined

The Witcher: Blood Origin has officially begun filming in the United Kingdom, according to a recent source, and has added to its ever-growing cast. The fantasy series is a prequel to The Witcher, a book series that has been converted into a video game series and a Tv show that debuted in 2019 and quickly became one of Netflix’s greatest ratings draws.

The show follows Geralt of Rivia, a witcher and famed monster hunter, as he becomes tangled in a twisted web of fate, destiny, and magic, starring Henry Cavill. The Witcher season 2, which concluded production in April, will be followed by its prequel show.

According to Deadline, Lenny Henry, Mirren Mack, Nathaniel Curtis, and Dylan Moran have joined the cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Jacob Collins-Levy, Lizzie Annis, Francesca Mills, and Zach Wyatt are among the newcomers. Laurence O’Fuarain (Fjall), Sophia Brown (Éile), and Michelle Yeoh (Scian) star in the six-part series, which was revealed in July. Sarah O’Gorman and Vicky Jewson are directing the show, which is presently filming in the United Kingdom.

 The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

In July 2020, Netflix announced The Witcher: Blood Origin. The planned film is one of two spinoff series based on The Witcher, the other being The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, a 2D animated film.

Blood Origin, however, is a live-action prequel series set 1200 years before Geralt’s time, unlike Nightmare of the Wolf. The show will go into the history of witches and explain what led to the Conjunction of the Spheres, when the worlds of monsters, elves, and mortals merged into one.

Blood Origin’s release date is unknown, but the show is sure to be a captivating addition to The Witcher franchise, especially for fans eager to learn more about the first witcher’s origins.

Before then, though, audiences may look forward to a number of upcoming projects: On August 23rd, Netflix will release Nightmare of the Wolf, and Season 2 of The Witcher will be released on December 17th. Blood Origin may be a great tie-in for The Witcher season 2, and it could be an interesting setup for the show’s future plots by digging into the past.
