Christina Ricci files for divorce from from husband of 7 years
Actress Christina Ricci filed for divorce this Thursday from James Heerdegen, her husband of seven years.
Ricci filed documents in the Los Angeles County Superior Court to dissolve her marriage with Heerdegen, citing irreconcilable differences. The Adams Family star was seen without her wedding ring on. Reports say Christina Ricci wants sole legal and physical custody of their 5-year-old son, Freddie. The document mentions that the couple do not have a prenuptial agreement, and Christina is the family’s main breadwinner.
The “domestic battery” call
The filing comes after news that Christina Ricci was granted an emergency protective order against James, after he allegedly spat at her. The order, which prohibits any contact between the couple, comes after the LAPD responded to Ricci’s call. On June 25, at 9:20 am, the Los Angeles police responded to a “domestic battery” call at their Woodland Hills home. However nobody was arrested. An LAPD spokesman declined to name the parties involved, but another law enforcement source confirmed Christina Ricci was the alleged victim.
Christina Ricci is being represented by divorce attorney Samantha Spector. Spector, a popular celeb attorney, is also handling Nicole Young’s divorce from Dr. Dre. Spector has also previously represented actresses Amber Heard and Jenna Dewan.
Ricci met Heerdegen on the set of her short-lived TV series, Pan Am in 2011. They started dating the following year, and married in 2013.
“Marriage shows you your flaws”
In an interview with Net A Porter‘s weekly digital magazine The EDIT, Christina Ricci opened up about her family.
“Marriage shows you your flaws in how you deal with things, and having a child forces you to grow up at the speed of light,” she shared with the publication. “I’m a completely different person than I was before I had my child.”
Christina continued, “Because I was so celebrated for being a child, I think I held onto that immaturity for a very long time. Ricci was a beloved child actress in hit films like Casper and The Addams Family. “It was the thing that made me special. Then at a certain point, like 35, it’s not so special to be immature.”
As an adult, Ricci has appeared in indie films like Black Snake Moan and Buffalo 66. Heerdegen worked as a dolly grip on the Oscar-winning film Birdman and the Emmy-nominated CBS drama Elementary‘.
