Coronation Street’s William Roache has “recovered” after being diagnosed with coronavirus, ITV reported.
It said the 88-year-old, who plays Ken Barlow on the television, has taken a break and is “looking forward to returning to the pit as soon as possible”.
ITV said Roache was keen to clarify that he had taken a leave of absence from work “following recent reports on his health”.
Roache and other senior members of the cast were kept away from the set at the start of the pandemic.
The actor has been a member of the Coronation Street cast since the launch of ITV soap in 1960.

Coronation Street resumed recording in June last year ahead of the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations in December.
Earlier this month the show revealed that it was using kissing doubles to enable intimate scenes to be filmed within social distancing guidelines
Like Ken, Roache has participated in some of the most notable soap opera’s storylines.
It includes his bitter feud with his romantic rival Mike Baldwin, who was famous for having an affair with Ken’s wife Deidre.
Johnny Briggs, who played Baldwin in the game for 30 years, died in February at the age of 85.
The actor’s honor will be shown on ITV at 20:00 BST among Monday’s show that made his name.
