WandaVision’s Writer Reveals Wanda & Westview Residents’ Alternate Confrontation

According to writer Jac Schaeffer, WandaVision almost had a creepier encounter between Wanda and Westview residents. Wanda and Vision tried to blend in with their New Jersey town’s ideal suburban lifestyle, misconstruing the reality that they are super-powered individuals. But, finally, WandaVision revealed that nothing at Westview was as it seemed, and that Scarlet Witch was involved in the strange events taking place there.

The title character’s lives as a newlywed pair starting over in Westview was the focus of the first several episodes of WandaVision. It took a few more episodes for Marvel Studios to reveal what was going on in the series, as it was continually changing to fit the style and format of classic comedies.

Scarlet Witch, it turned out, had taken over the entire town in order to live her fantasy life with Vision. Wanda was indulging in her grief at Vision’s death when the Maximoff Anomaly began accidentally. But, in order to live the life she’d always wanted, she’d become fiercely protective of the little world she’d built, even if it meant torturing Westview citizens.

WandaVision writer Jac Schaeffer revealed to Rolling Stone that the final encounter between Scarlet Witch and the Westview people would be more of a zombie fight. Matt Shakman, the show’s creator, had extensive plans for the sequence, but it had to be scrapped due to coronavirus.

Wanda, on the other hand, has a great deal of regret for what she did to the Westview residents, according to Olsen. As seen in the WandaVision post-credits scene, this was part of the reason she withdrew into self-isolation. Scarlet Witch may or may not run across her former neighbours, but there’s a high chance she won’t want to return to Westview anytime soon.
