WandaVision Writer Reveals How Post-Credits Scene Sets Up Scarlet Witch’s Future

WandaVision’s post-credits scene was to set up Scarlet Witch’s future. Marvel Studios’ debut TV show was expected to be franchise-changing. However, at the finale, it was the story of Wanda dealing with her past traumas. But this does not mean that the show did not plant any points for the future of the MCU character.

Wanda’s character was among the sidelines despite being a part of the MCU from 2015. She first appeared on Avengers: Age of Ultron and the main Avengers had primary focus. WandaVision helped Marvel Studios to focus and develop her story and tackle her trauma starting from the death of her parents. Her trauma only increased since then to Vision’s demise in Avengers: Infinity War.

The Disney+ show also revealed new information about the hero as she was finally called the Scarlet Witch. Wanda’s use of her Chaos magic enabled her to lead a suburbia life as she held Westview hostage. At the end of the show, the hex had come down and she bid her family goodbye.

However, in the post-credits scene, Scarlet Witch had gone away in self-isolation where she revealed to be simultaneously learning about the Darkhold. This set up Wanda’s future in the MCU and Jac Schaeffer, the writer breaks down during the oral history of the show. She revealed the two messages they wanted to bring across the audience.

Jac shared they wanted more time to have elapsed and decided Wanda will be somewhere isolated. She explained that they were trying to accomplish two goals. The writer shared that one was that Wanda reached the point of acceptance and she was able to be by herself comfortably.

Wanda Is Learning More About Herself Through The Darkhold

She shared, “We wanted more time to have elapsed, and that she would be somewhere isolated, somewhere where she felt protected, and on her own. Because we were trying, ultimately, to accomplish two goals. One, that she had reached some semblance of acceptance, and that she was able to be by herself comfortably; that there could be a measure of peace, and she could sit and have tea and reflect and not want to jump out of her skin and not, you know, be crying and self-medicating in any way, with her power or otherwise.”

The second goal was sending Wanda on a journey to know more about herself after what happened in Westview, specifically what she learnt from Agatha Harkness. Jack said, “And then the second goal was that what she’s learned through the course of the Westview experience, and specifically what she has learned from Agatha, would send her on this journey of wanting to know more about herself, and the Darkhold became the mechanism for that.”

This determines Scarlet Witch’s future in the MCU as it brings her some peace after a tragic life. WandaVision successfully addressed her suppresed trauma that started when she was a child. Now she can deal with her own family while Vision, Tommy and Billy disappeared once the hex was taken down. They are going to return to the franchise at some point in the future as White Vision still exists. As for her twins, they had called out for her in the post-credits scene as well hinting at their re-emergence.

The second point is setting up Wanda as the most influential superheros in MCU’s Phase 4. As per the character’s history, she is expected to become super-powerful but that has not happened yet. There were some hints about what she could be capable of after emerging from her self-isolation. We will definitely see that in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or even in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
