Voldemort Star Ralph Fiennes Defends Jk Rowling’s Comment On Transgender People

UK actor Ralph Fiennes has said he “does not understand vitriol aimed at” JK Rowling in terms of comments she has made about transgender people.

The author of Harry Potter was criticized last summer by stars including Daniel Radcliffe for publishing an article online with the term”people who menstruate”.

What Did Fiennes Say?

Fiennes, who played Voldemort in the franchise, told the Telegraph: “I understand the heat of the dispute.

“But I find this age of accusation and the need to condemn irrational.”

Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes is an English actor, film producer, and director. A Shakespeare interpreter, he first achieved success onstage at the Royal National Theatre.

“I find the level of hatred that people express about views that differ from theirs, and the violence of language towards others, disturbing,” continued The Dig actor, while also announcing his new one-man theatre tour performing TS Eliot’s Four Quartets.

Comments Of JK Rowling

In June 2020, the author tweeted about an article discussing “people who menstruate”.

“I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

In response, there was cyberbullying and hatred from the trans community and beyond all over the internet, and Rowling was dubbed as transphobic – which she vehemently denies.

The stars of her favorite Harry Potter book and film series, including Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Eddie Redmayne have expressed support for Trans community and those who were offended after her comments.

Speaking Truth Isn’t Hating

Rowling stood by her remarks, saying “it’s not hate to tell the truth”. She means to say that telling the truth does not mean she hates the community.

She said she talked about transgender problems in part because of her experience of domestic violence and sexual harassment.

Joanne Rowling CH, OBE, HonFRSE, FRCPE, FRSL, better known by her pen name J. K. Rowling, is a British author and philanthropist. She is best known for writing the Harry Potter fantasy series, which has won multiple awards and sold more than 500 million copies, becoming the best-selling book series in history.

“My life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so,” she added.

“I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives.”
