Video of Unmukt Chand 90 Runs: 8 Fours 2 Sixes : India vs South Africa

India vs South Africa, 3rd Match, Chennai, Aug 9 2015, India A Team Triangular Series

Match Result: India A won by 8 wickets (with 74 balls remaining)

Player of the Match: Mayak Agarwal [130(122)]

Match Report: So South Africa A finish with a competitive 244, but they would feel they are slightly short of where they would want to be. Quinton de Kock played a marvellous innings – gritty and diligent. He struggled early on and was unable to find the gaps but stuck around for a bit and reaped rich dividends with a ton. Dane Vilas gave him ample and able support too. India’s bowlers were better today and restricted South Africa well early on. What will happen in the chase?

The quick bowlers began tiring, Eddie Leie’s legspin was trashed for 74 runs in 10 overs, and the opening partnership between Chand and Agarwal chugged along to 219 runs. Agarwal completed a run-a-ball hundred and fell with two runs left to seal victory. Karun Nair was tagged in and struck the winning runs with a four.

Manish hugs Karun.  Mandeep Singh joins the celebrations. India A open their account and this bonus-point win may turn out to be crucial in the run for the final. On the other side, South Africa A are still winless. To compound South Africa A’s problems, they have been hit by illness and cramps, so much so they needed their video analyst Hendrikus Coertzen and India A’s Mandeep Singh on the field.

Chand and Agarwal were troubled by early swing and movement as India A managed only two runs, including only one off the bat, in the first five overs of the chase. Soon after the new ball was seen off, the bowlers began tiring under the intense Chennai heat and openers shifted through the gears, as the hosts mowed down the target of 245 inside 38 overs. And South Africa did not help their cause with some poor fielding.

While Chand got to back-to-back fifties, Agarwal kicked on to strike 130 off 122 balls before he fell at the doorstep of victory.

Mayank Agarwal | Man of the Match: I am feeling better now. Need an ice bath and get set. I think I made a lot of mistakes early on, throwing wickets early in the career. The plan was, if you get set, take the team through.

Dean Elgar, South Africa A captain: “The boys are pretty battered and bruised. Six, seven and maybe eight guys will be going to the hospital. It was tough for the boys, our start seemed to be an issue in our first game as well. We will have to get back tomorrow. Credit to the Indian batters. I definitely feel we were quite a lot of runs short. We had our chances and it proved to be quite expensive for us.”

Unmukt Chand | India A captain: “Really happy. The bowlers bowled in the right areas and it was a great start. We restricted them to 244, which was a decent total. Both of us started shakily and I am happy we could play till the end make it an one-sided encounter. They bowled really well in the right areas and we just told each other that it was matter of few overs.”
