Video of Shahrukh Khan’s winning six against KKR: IPL 2021

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Punjab Kings, 1 October 2021, 7:30 PM IST

Match Result: Punjab Kings won by 5 wkts (with 3 balls to spare)

Oh what relief for PBKS! They again seemed to be faltering towards the end after being in control for most of the chase. In the end they won by three balls to spare. That’s a comprehensive margin in PBKS terms. They were helped by Tripathi who couldn’t hold onto the catch and fumbled it over the ropes.

Morgan kept pushing his fifth bowler’s final over till the very end, hoping that his more established bowlers would leave something to defend. But in the end Iyer just had five in the bank. Rahul anchored the chase nicely right from start to the finish (almost), while Shahrush Khan played a nice cameo at the end, lifting Punjab to fifth place in the table, tied on points with KKR who are fourth.

Shahrukh Khan talks about the winning six

“It would have been easier for me to take on the bowlers… I thought I had it [the last ball] well. I was brave enough to take shot. As soon as I go into any situation such as this, that method is really working. We needed three wins on the trot, and have started off well…”

“It was really important that a set batsman was there when I went in so that I could take it on from the first ball itself. I thought I hit the last ball really well and I thought it would go deep. But I was brave enough to take the chance. As soon as go into a situation such as this, I look to pick the gaps and I’ll look to carry this on. We need three wins on the trot, and we have started off well today. It’s important we stick to the process and not think too far ahead.”

Eoin Morgan | Losing Captain :  “Initially we didn’t field as well, put catches down. Myself early too. We probably had a par score on the wicket. Kings played well, we fought back, but catches have cost us. I thought in real-time that the Tripathi catch was out.

But when you slow it down, the third umpire decided otherwise. We got on with it once he made his call. Hopefully we play hard in the back end, get a few results and qualify into the playoffs.”

KL Rahul, the Orange Cap holder, is the Player of the Match

The PBKS skipper said in the post-match presentation,” I’ll take the two points (heaves a huge sigh). We played it smartly. Realised it was a decent wicket and can’t experiment too much. Went slightly defensive with the ball. Wasn’t much spin. Wanted to make the batters hit to the bigger side. With the bat also we’ve given clear roles to players. Obviously want to finish games.

Weather’s not been too kind coming straight from England. Win will give us confidence and hopefully we’ll build on it. These are things that kill me as a captain. Don’t want to leave out the Indian boys. With a heavy heart had to leave Harpreet out. Had to see what would be our best XI with Chris leaving the bubble.”
