Video of Rohit Sharma 56 Runs : 3 Sixes : IND v NZ 3rd T20I Kolkata

India vs New Zealand, 3rd T20I (N), Kolkata, Nov 21 2021, New Zealand tour of India

Match Report: Pretty dominating Batting performance until now by the Indian Batsmen. Rohit Sharma has placed himself in contention for Man of the Series. He has scored 2 Fifities in the 3 match series, missing out on a fifty by 2 runs in the first match. Venkatesh Iyer impressed too with clinical batting but fell out soon. Wickets have kept tumbling at regular intervals but that has not slowed down the run rate.

Rohit Sharma | India captain: We are going to bat first. Pitch looks a little sticky and we want to challenge ourselves as a batting unit. We gotta try various things and this is one of them. We want to put runs on the board and give the new set of bowlers a target to defend. KL and Ashwin are rested. Ishan and Chahal come in. We are very clear as to what we want to do that’s why Ishan has to wait for his opportunity, Chahal as well, he has been a champion bowler for us.

Mitchell Santner | New Zealand captain: Yeah (would have bowled). Last few games it has been wet because of the dew. There has been dew throughout. Whatever we do we have to do it well. We have been close, lost a couple of phases especially in the last game during the middle with the bat, we got off to a great start.. But that’s just the way. The Indian openers have come out and build partnerships. We are not far away and hopefully we can put up a complete game today. That’s (Southee) the only change.

Glenn Phillips: We are gonna go out there and give it our best, like we do every game. India might have won the series, but we are here to put up a show, and hopefully we’ll be able to do that. The toss is out of our control and if we end up batting again today, it will be about assessing the wicket as much as possible, the way Guptill and Mitchell have started, that has been brilliant and Chapman in the middle has been quality.

I think the best way to go about things is, come in and keep things fresh and stay positive. I try to be that batter in the middle order that can do whatever role is required, whether it is having a whack in the end, or stabilze the innings if we have a rough start.

Rishabh Pant: After the WC, everyone was thinking that in what areas we can improve. As a group we have been talking about that a lot. We had to improve in the middle overs. In those two matches, we have ticked few boxes that we spoke in the team meetings. It’s going really well for us. As a kid I always dreamt of winning matches for India in any situation.

I am ready to do whatever the team needs me to do. I am happy to finish the match for the team. I can’t be complaining (about the workload) but the team management has given me offs from the next two Test matches. Hopefully I can recover well and do well in South Africa.
