Video of Vivo Perfect Catch of the Match : RCB vs SRH

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 06 October 2021, 07:30 PM IST

Match Report : Priyam Garg had done his job in trying to hit out before getting out. Sunrisers had a set Jason Roy and a fresh Abdul Samad at the pitch with 5.5 overs remaining. But, as they have done so often this IPL, RCB have been terrific at the 2nd end of an innings once again.

First, Roy belted a full ball back with immense power, and somehow Dan Christian not only didn’t feel the need to get out of the way after bowling it, he got hands to it, juggled it, and caught it.

Virat Kohli | RCB captain – “It feels amazing (qualification). I don’t think after 2011, we haven’t done it with games to spare, but it’s a great position to be in. Eight wins out of 12 games is a great campaign for the team. Now we have two more opportunities to finish in the top two and that gives the added motivation to play even more fearlessly.

The first huddle for any team is qualification. We still have areas to improve so that we work on those areas and get into the top 2. It wasn’t an easy wicket. When you don’t have any wickets on the scoreboard, you can take more risks. Which myself and Paddikal have to. 15-20 runs on this ground can be crucial, we have to plug in those areas. There’s a qualifier and eliminator to be played here.

As a side we have had an endeavour to improve, in losses as well as wins. We knew the wicket would get slower and slower, it’s not going to be easy to hit. KL and Mayank batted really well, but we knew we were just two wickets from coming back into the game.

Our bowlers came back brilliantly and held their composure brilliantly. Look, the resurgence of Siraj ever since he has succeeded in Test cricket, his body language has been diffierent, that’s what I keep telling guys.”

Yuzvendra Chahal – “I backed myself and bowled according to my strength, just that I varied my length. On this wicket 160 was a good score. Virat (Kohli) told me not to go for wickets in the middle overs, he told me to bowl dot balls. Agarwal is a great batsman.

I love to bowl against him, it’s challenging. My focus was not to bowl any loose balls. We had good momentum in the first half. The way we have bounced back after first couple of games in the UAE, it is all because of unity in our team.”

Kane Williamson | SRH captain: “We did have our chances to squeeze the scoring but it was always going to be tough with such a low score. We haven’t been able to identify the right score all season. We need to go back to the drawing board and re-assess things.

We could have built more partnerships. Unfortunately we were 10-15 short of what would have been a competitive score. Obviously we’re out of the competition, so it’s a chance for some other boys to also get on the park.”
