Video of All 5 Wickets taken by Axar Patel : IND v NZ 1st Test Kanpur

India vs New Zealand, 1st Test, Kanpur, Nov 25 – 29 2021, New Zealand tour of India

Toss : India won the toss and Chose to Bat First

Day 3 Report: Story so far is that the 3rd Day has belonged to India. More than the batting and bowling, poor umpiring has come under the spotlight. Nitin Menon has already given 5 wrong decisions till now. And its just the 2nd innings. A war of words happened between Nitin Menon and Ashwin. Ashwin took a dig at the umpire. Other than that, New Zealand openers must be disappointed with the way they got out. Kiwi fans would have liked to see at least one of them get a century. Bharat has been in for Saha as wicketkeeper. He has been doing a phenomenal job. He overturned a decision and got India the first wicket. He didn’t give a single thought, didn’t hesitate to request captain Rahane to take the DRS.

Axar Patel has been the pick of the lot. Three wickets in his kitty. Kane Williamson got out in the final over before Lunch. Every Indian bowler has been impressive today. Ishant has been bowling tight and building the pressure, he has been unlucky to not have secured a wicket. Jadeja got the wicket of Rachin Ravindra. Actually, lets make it interesting. Ravindra got the wicket of Ravindra. It was a beautiful delivery, nipped back in, got the inside edge and onto the stumps.

Rahane has impressed with the bowling changes he has been doing. Day 3 has belonged to India till now. But they will be hoping to strike the remaining 4 wickets as soon as possible. Spinners have dominated the bowling charts till now. Perhaps the tailenders can be cleared away quickly by the pacers.

Axar Patel: It’s a dream start, in fact this is a dream within a dream start for me. No, it (Test cricket) isn’t that easy. Was a hard grind today. They didn’t lose any wickets yesterday and the talk was to keep it tight, don’t try for wickets every ball, just look to be patient. I was sticking to the basics and using the crease a bit. My round-arm deliveries were getting something out of the track and I was optimising that a lot. That’s what worked for me. The track is getting slower and there has been more turn now. Variable bounce is also increasing but still think that runs can be made if the batters apply themselves.

Shreyas Iyer: “I was really happy with the way everything went right from day one. Couldn’t get good sleep last night. Especially when you are batting overnight, I thought I batted really well yesterday but had to still focus again today. He (Sunil Gavaskar) motivated me a lot while giving me the cap but the one thing he told me that stayed in my mind is, ‘don’t look too far ahead and just enjoy yourself’. I wasn’t able to sleep well at all, got up early at five today morning but when you make a century, it’s a wonderful feeling. They got off to a good start obviously but it’s important for us to not leak runs because the cracks are opening up and it should get trickier tomorrow.”

Cheteshwar Pujara: It (preparation) has been good. I was part of the IPL, didn’t play but was training and preparing whenever I got time. So, the prep has been good. We also had a good practice session in Mumbai. It’s good to be back playing at home because we haven’t played in India for a while now. Their (Virat, Rohit) absence does give the others a chance to prove themselves. It (responsibility) is there obviously but I don’t think I should think too much about it. This track was a bit slow the last time we played here, but did spin later.
