India vs Scotland, 37th Match, Group 2 (N), Dubai (DSC), Nov 5 2021, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

New Zealand vs Namibia, 36th Match, Group 2, Sharjah, Nov 5 2021, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

Kane Williamson | NZ captain: “I think we all know what we have to expect here (Sharjah), it’s a real scrap. We tried to maximise that short side, it was a challenging surface. The guys played well to get us to 160. You need to build those partnerships and trying to maximise towards the end.

An over or two can crack the game, that was our focus today. We got some reasonable match-ups and got what’s about par on this wicket. They (Afghanistan) are a strong side and they have played good cricket, they have some match winners throughout their team.

Looking forward to that challenge. It’s a different venue so we need to make those adjustments quickly, it’s the nature of this tournament. You got to play at different venues and adjust quickly.”

Gerhard Erasmus | Namibia captain: “I thought we bowled well for a while, probably for the first 15-16 overs, but the death overs didn’t go according to the plan. We need to go back and make plans for the death overs. It’s all about using the right bowler at the right time towards the end.

We got one more game so we need to try and nail that aspect, so hoping to do that against India. It was quite a tough pitch though. 160 was a bit too much on that wicket. As I said it got away from us towards the end.”

Kyle Coetzer | Scotland captain: “We were outclassed in every department. The only way we’re going to improve is by getting games like this. Boys are still going to take something out of this. Mark has been excellent for us all tournament.

He has a great set of skills, he has learnt a lot from other spinners too. That’s another important reason for us to be in this tournament. He (Leask) is a fantastic striker of the cricket ball, lovely to watch.”

Virat Kohli: “A dominating performance, something that we were striving to do again. Now it will be interesting to see what happens on 7th (November). Don’t want to say a lot about today’s performance, we know what we can do. Also tells you how important the toss can be at this venue. We wanted to get them under 110-120 max, that was the mindset we went in with.

The bowlers were excellent, and then KL and Rohit did really well. We spoke about the 8-10 over bracket before the start, didn’t want to really go too hard because if you lose wickets, then an extra 20 balls could cost. We thought that if they play naturally, runs will come quickly. If you look at our practice games, we have been actually batting like this only.

Just a couple of aberrations happened, where we just couldn’t got those two successive good overs. Teams bowled well too, and created pressure on us. But we were just two overs of good batting. Jadeja bowled really well, also Shami was quite good. My family is here – that is enough (birthday) celebration for me.”
