Video of 20th over of KKR Batting : Last over of the Match : KKR vs DC

KKR vs DC, Qualifier 2, 13 October 2021, 07:30 PM IST

Match Result : Kolkata Knight Riders won by 3 wkts

Player of the Match : Venkatesh Iyer

Match Report : KKR have won all the IPL finals they have been in. CSK’s win percentage is 37.5 in an IPL final. But KKR has featured in 2 finals and CSK’s 9th appearance awaits them. Needless to say, the nerves that jangle first will find it hard to win the trophy.

And then there will be two WC winning captains who know how to soak in the pressure. As for today, DC much like RCB two days back will come back may be with a new squad to target their first IPL triumph. They came the closest last season and after topping the table this season, it seemed they will get their hands on the trophy. But then they were defeated twice.

CSK and now KKR got the better of them. Big games and DC somehow choke and knock themselves out. Enough said.

Eoin Morgan, KKR skipper: We will dissect what happened in the last four overs. The openers gave us a great platform. But we have won and we are in the finals. We are delighted to get over the line. We are in the entertainment business and need to play some entertaining cricket.

Six off 2 and you would say the odds are for the bowling side. But Tripathi has done it for us so many times. The guys coming in feel free to express themselves. The backroom staff have created an excellent atmosphere for that to happen. With the squad we have, we had huge expectations.

Our coach BMac saw Iyer and had tracked his progress. Iyer seems to be batting on a different wicket. Anything can happen in a final!

Teams finishing in top two and not making final since 2011:
Delhi Daredevils in 2012
Gujarat Lions in 2016
Delhi Capitals in 2021

Rahul Tripathi: “It feels great. The win for the team was very important. We had one or two tough overs and I never thought it would go so deep. Glad we won the game. Rabada bowled the 18th over really well, but I knew that I had to just connect one.

The plan was to take a two if there was a possibility. If it was two, we were running, otherwise it was going to be me. It was difficult to straightaway get singles and boundaries for the new batsmen. It was keeping low and it was difficult to hit. I believed in myself and knew it was just one hit away. It has been a great journey for us after the first phase.

We believed in ourselves and the approach given by Eoin and the coach helped us with the positive approach. Looking forward to the final and hope we can carry this winning momentum at the biggest match as well.”

KKR are the second side to reach IPL finals since 2011 after finishing fourth in the points table after CSK did so in 2012. In both seasons, the final was played between CSK and KKR.
