Well-known opera director Sir Graham Vick has died aged 67 “as a result of the problems that arose due to Covid-19”, it has been made official.
Sir Graham Vick took birth in Birkenhead on Merseyside. He was the founder of the Birmingham Opera Company in 1987 and worked with major locations, including Milan’s La Scala and the Royal Opera House in London.
The 67-year-old “pioneer” received the Knighthood during the Honors of New Year 2021. His work was indeed legendary.
In a statement, the opera company said it was “devastated”.
Sir Graham kicked off his career with the Scottish Opera, where he established a travel company that would take production teams to remote regions for projects.
His work with Birmingham Opera Company has seen him create new plays aimed at showcasing the city.
He had no fixed location, Sir Graham mastered the art of making performances that took place in unfamiliar areas, such as airline hangars, nightclubs and power stations.
The company has emerged victorious at numerous award functions and was recently awarded gold at the International Opera Awards in May for its highly rated education and outreach program.
Paying tribute to him on Twitter, Scottish Opera said he left “a legacy of many important international productions”, while English National Opera called him “legendary”.
