Secondly, Jones and his inner circle orchestrated a mass murder–suicide in his remote jungle commune at Jonestown, on November 18, 1978. Jones was first ordained as a Christian minister in the Independent Assemblies of God. However, he attracted his initial followers while participating in the Pentecostal Latter Rain movement. So Jones endorsed by and conducted joint revival campaigns with the movement’s prominent leaders, William Branham and Joseph Mattsson-Boze.
