‘This Is Us’ to Tackle Coronavirus in Season 5

This Is Us is set to depict the current situation into their series for the upcoming season. The series will be showing the current coronavirus pandemic.

Dan Fogelman, the creator of This Is Us, revealed on Sunday when a fan questioned about the new season. The user asked if the upcoming season would be tackling the current situation in the storyline. Fogelman said he will actually be covering the situation and incorporating it into the series.  “We’ve decided to attack things head-on. Very proud of @ThisIsUsWriters,” he wrote on Twitter.

Few series have decided to add the current situation into their shows such as Grey’s Anatomy. There was speculation if This Is Us would be doing the same.

This Is Us has been working towards ending the series with its sixth season. It often jumps between decades in any episode. With all the decades into the show, introducing the current global pandemic is going to add an uncertain layer to the series.  It is unclear how the writers will weave in the pandemic into the fabric of the series in the present day.

The creator also revealed when filming for the fifth season would start. He says there is still no date set for the shooting to begin. The show usually starts filming by July but could not start it this time because of the on-going coronavirus.

“We’re keeping up the momentum, for sure”

That also means there is no confirmed premiere date for the new season, though NBC has slotted This Is Us in its usual Tuesday at 9 p.m. time period. Although the take of the series has changed the final destination remains intact. “Same planned ending. The same route to get there,” he assured.

The This Is Us season 4 finale has left all of us with many unanswered questions. From Kevin becoming a father to twins to Kevin and Randall’s fractured relationship over Rebecca’s declining health to Kate and Toby deciding to expand their family.

“We’re keeping up the momentum, for sure,” Justin Hartley told ET earlier this summer. He said that the show is at best when they talk about real-life things that people go through. These things are hard for them and that does not go anywhere anytime soon. The actor gave instances like mental health, sexuality, alcohol abuse, drug addiction, marriage, death.

Justin continues, “As long as we continue to tackle those topics that are truthful, honest, and relevant, that’s when we’re at our best. And from what I’m gathering, it’s going to be a hell of a season.”
