The Uncharted Movie Trailer Is Expected To Arrive This Week

The first trailer for Sony’s upcoming live-action film Uncharted, based on Naughty Dog’s video gaming franchise, is expected to be released this week. For the better part of a decade, Uncharted was mired in development hell.

Ruben Fleischer, the filmmaker of Venom, was revealed as the director of the picture in 2020, with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) writing the screenplay. The film was shot throughout 2020 and will be released in theatres on February 18, 2022, following many delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tom Holland as fortune hunter

Uncharted will follow Tom Holland as fortune hunter Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan, and will serve as a prequel to the games. The film will star Antonio Banderas, Tati Gabrielle, and Sophia Taylor Ali as Chloe Frazer, Nathan’s love interest in the games, and will center on their early adventures together.

Sony debuted the first footage from the film at CinemaCon earlier this year, with Sully at an auction, Nathan entering a cave-like location, and then falling out of a cargo plane, all of which are reminiscent of the video game franchise.

Sony Pictures is expected to release the first trailer for Uncharted on Thursday, October 21st, according to a tip from Daniel “DanielIRPK” Richtman on Patreon (via Comicbook). However, because Sony has not released any official information about the trailer’s debut, fans should take this information at its value. However, with the film set to hit theatres in a matter of months, a trailer would make sense.

Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home

Holland’s other blockbuster, Marvel Studios/upcoming Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, has undoubtedly influenced Sony’s Uncharted marketing strategy. Now that the buzz around No Way Home’s first trailer has calmed down a little, Sony might profit on Holland’s success by teasing another blockbuster immediately before No Way Home’s expected second trailer, which would then be released on December 17th.

If No Way Home marks the conclusion of Holland’s Spider-Man franchise (but not his time as the web slinger), Uncharted may be the beginning of his new film series.
