The Umbrella Academy star opens up about her health issues and disordered eating

Tom Hopper, star of the Umbrella Academy, has spoken up about his battle to regain his health following years of compulsive eating. Hopper is an English actor who now stars in Netflix’s popular original series The Umbrella Academy as Luther Hargreeves.

With his tremendous strength, big-brother mindset, and hilariously bashful personality, Hopper rapidly became a fan favourite on the show. Luther, on the other hand, is simply one of many parts Hopper has played throughout the years.

Fans of the BBC will most certainly recognise him as Sir Percival in Merlin or as a Doctor Who guest star. He also appeared on HBO’s Game of Thrones as a recurring guest star. Hopper recently starred in the Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard alongside Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, and is set to participate in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, a future survival horror film. Fans are used to seeing Hopper in physically demanding parts that showcase his fitness and muscular build, so learning that he struggled with his health for many years comes as a surprise.

The Umbrella Academy Tom Hopper as Luther

Hopper’s frankness regarding his health problems is an inspiration to many people who suffer from eating disorders. When we see Hopper in The Umbrella Academy as Luther, we are impressed by his body, but not by the effort and struggle that went into it.

Acting is a tough profession that frequently requires performers to lose or gain considerable weight, as Mark Wahlberg did for Stu. Some performers, such as Hopper, may require a high calorie intake to maintain their muscular physiques, but they may not always be aware of the ideal meals to eat.
