The Soundtrack for Peacemaker is James Gunn’s favourite of all his projects

James Gunn discusses the soundtrack for HBO’s Max’s Peacemaker season 1, describing it as his favourite of his career. The series will explore the beginnings of John Cena’s DC Comics superhero, a brutal killer who believes in attaining peace at all costs, and will be created, written, and mostly directed by Gunn. Gunn’s next DC Extended Universe premiere, The Suicide Squad, will serve as a prequel to Peacemaker.

Despite intending to return to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after wrapping work on The Suicide Squad, Gunn found himself crafting a spinoff series for Cena’s character for the sake of entertainment until DC Films expressed interest in the filmmaker adapting a character for a series.

HBO Max quickly picked up the show for an eight-episode first season, which Gunn wrote all of and directed five episodes. Though the season has not yet been formally released, Gunn has hinted at a second season, and DC Films President Walter Hamada has announced that the streamer will continue to develop interconnected series for the DCEU, beginning with Peacemaker.

Gunn’s Tweet

Gunn took to Twitter to inform fans that the first season of Peacemaker has wrapped filming over the weekend. When a fan inquired about the soundtrack’s development in relation to his filmography, Gunn stated that he took the time to create a tracklist that is on level with, if not better than, the rest of his work. Take a look at what Gunn had to say in the video below:

However, given the success of Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1, Gunn’s glowing praise for Peacemaker’s season 1 soundtrack speaks well for the HBO Max series.

Even if it doesn’t quite achieve the same certification levels, knowing that the filmmaker is extremely proud of the list and considers it to be his favourite is looking positive for fans of the series. While the spin-off won’t hit theatres until January, Gunn’s first DCEU film, The Suicide Squad, will hit theatres on August 5.
