Nidah Barber-Raymond: The Peel Connection is a place that specializes in chemical peels. Mainly light to medium-depth chemical peels that create change in the skin. This obsession with chemical peels started when I was in my early 30s so I definitely was passionate about staying young. I had a peel and saw instant results. I was mixing chemicals in my living room at one point.
I was living in Santa Monica and had a lot of actor and models as neighbors. It wasn’t really difficult to get to be able to practice for free on many people who wanted to improve their appearance in Los Angeles. I was working on about 15 people per week out of my one bedroom apartment. Their results were instant so word got around. An unconventional approach I had was approaching strangers about problematic skin. Some of it was welcomed and some wasn’t.
I’ve always read that if you have a good product or provide a service that corrects a problem that it’s almost inevitable that you will become successful. I didn’t really believe that until I grew my business just creating change in peoples’ skin on a daily basis. Word gets around. Instagram and Yelp definitely amplified my success.
Nidah Barber-Raymond: I guess my viral secret would be sharing before and after photos with online platforms like Yelp, Instagram, Google business page, etc. and of course hashtags are important.
Don’t be afraid to ask your clients to share their results. When you are doing something you are passionate about people generally tend to want to see you grow and be successful. My clients have been instrumental in my growth and success through sharing on online platforms.
Nidah Barber-Raymond: I think my experience has made me able to assess a client pretty quickly. Through determining what their skin goals are through asking a series of questions I have been able to give them results to whatever it is they are trying to change.
Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself is a favorite. A Navy seal recommended this book to me. I feel like it was able to teach me some things that most help self-help books have not been able to. Basically on creating new habits you rewire your brain out of old habits. You’ll have to check it out.
I see a very diverse set of Peels being made every year. The skin adapts very quickly so eventually it stops responding to products and treatments you’ve always done. I think it’s very important to keep introducing new things to your skin by switching it up. My dream is to run a respected home chemical peel company that destigmatizes chemical peels so everyone can use them at home.
