The Mandalorian’s Baby Yoda Name Reveal Breaks Star Wars Tradition

The Star Wars franchise broke its year’s long tradition as they revealed Baby Yoda’s name with The Mandalorian. The character was referred to as “the Child” before season 2’s episode.

The episode named, ‘The Jedi’ revealed that the real name of Baby Yoda is Grogu. Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, revealed the real name to Mandalorian Din Djarin played by Pedro Pascal. The information was given to the character after the connection with the force-sensitive being on Corvus.

When Grogu made his first appearance back in the first episode of The Mandalorian, the character became an instant hit among fans. The Jedi Master Yoda is still the most popular character introduced in the franchise. The younger version of the same had the same reaction.

Grogu is a little creature whose existence is quite compelling to his lack of backstory. Ahsoka also revealed some more information about the adorable character. He revealed that the character was raised and trained in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant before the fall of the Republic.

However, there is still a lot of details we do not know about Grogu’s life which remains a mystery. The Star Wars franchise has actually never stated the aspect or origin of the character’s species. Other than both Yoda and Grogu, Yaddle is also another member of the same species. The character was a force-sensitive female who was a member of the Jedi High Council.

Both the characters were named Yoda and Yaddle which made fans predict that it would follow the same pattern of having a name that started with Y. However, the franchise broke its pattern and went with Grogu.

Ahsoka’s Debut In The Live-Action

Fans predicted that the live-action Star Wars series will have the pattern of picking a name that starts with Y. ‘Yogu’ and ‘Yorgu’ were the possible names that go along with what Baby Yoda’s name actually turned out to be. Fans predicted that there was a specific reason why their names started with Y, however, to their disappointment that is off the table.

Although Grogu’s name was leaked way before it was revealed in the Disney+ series, the Din continues to investigate the Child’s background. There is also speculation that Yaddle might be looking for Grogu which would allow the character to appear in the near future.

Fans had a mixed reaction as some were loving it but others were not having it. The episode also brought another reveal as Ahsoka Tano also made the very first appearance in the live-action. Rosario was rumored to be playing the fan-favorite character, and she made her debut. It was previously voiced by Ashley Eckstein in the “Clone Wars” series

Her character got to communicate with Baby Yoda aka Grogu. The episode also revealed that she senses fear in Yoda. In “Star Wars,” fear is famously the path to the dark side and was Anakin Skywalker’s undoing. That’s something Tano is all too familiar with, as she was Skywalker’s padawan.
