The Lead Character for Disney+’s National Treasure has been cast

The lead actor for the upcoming National Treasure TV series, Jess Morales, has been announced by Disney+.

The first National Treasure film, featuring Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Gates, was released in 2004 by Disney and starred Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Gates, a man on the hunt for a hidden treasure who makes some unethical decisions about precious items from American history. National Treasure: Book of Secrets, the sequel, was published in 2007, although Disney hasn’t done much with the property since then. Until recently, that is.

Storyline

Disney+ stated last year that it was working on a TV show based on the National Treasure storyline. Instead of Cage reprising his role as Gates, the tale will focus on Jess Morales, a young Latina protagonist.

Jess is a DREAMer or an unauthorized immigrant to the United States who enters the country as a minor and can apply for residency after they reach the age of 16. She’s looking for answers about her family, which leads her on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that reveals some previously unknown truths, as well as some hidden treasure.

Lisette Alexis as the lead role

According to Deadline, Lisette Alexis has been cast in the lead role of Jess in the upcoming series. Alexis is a rising young actress who has appeared in films such as We Need To Do Something, a horror film, and the Total Eclipse TV series.

Alexis is the only cast member who has been revealed thus far, but the new series finally has a face. Jon Turteltaub will helm the National Treasure series, which will be written by Marianne and Cormac Wibberley.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who was involved in the original films, is executive producing the upcoming series. Initially, Bruckheimer indicated that the series will focus on a new, younger generation of treasure hunters. And, given Jess’s status as a DREAMer, the show will not shy away from the country’s often-dark immigration history. Disney also has the opportunity to provide a more historically accurate retelling of historical events.
