The first pictures from House of the Dragon show, Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith as Targaryens.

The first official images from the set of the prequel to Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, have been posted. On Wednesday, HBO released photos of Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, and Steve Toussaint dressed in traditional clothing.

D’Arcy and Smith, who play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Prince Daemon Targaryen, are seen sharing the frame in the first picture. Toussaint stands on the edge of a cliff in another photograph. Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as the Sea Snake, is played by the actor. Cooke and Ifans reprise their roles as Alicent and Otto Hightower in the third film.

George RR Martin’s Fire & Blood inspired House of the Dragon. The series takes place 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones. The tale of House Targaryen will be the subject of the prequel.

Variety reports that the House of the Dragon has been given a 10-episode order and will premiere in 2022. Pictures from the casting’s script-reading session were posted online last week. Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal have been announced as co-showrunners and executive producers. Martin and Vince Gerardis, writers, have been added as executive producers. Martin and Condal collaborated on the series.

Sapochnik is set to direct the pilot episode. He’ll also be seen in more series. Clare Kilner and Geeta V Patel are among the other directors. Greg Yaitanes will also serve as the show’s director and co-executive producer.

The last season of Game of Thrones aired in 2019. The final season did not go down well with viewers. The HBO show wrapped up the long-running drama in eight episodes, with a few missteps. The final season was also chastised for concluding the long-awaited war with the White Walkers in just three episodes.
