‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ Cancellation rumors squashed by Producers
Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show is facing cancellation issues. Rumors floating around about the show’s sliding ratings has led people to believe that the daytime talk show may be cancelled. The show, which features the comedian interviewing your favorite celebs, is reportedly on the verge of being axed. On top of the pandemic and falling ratings, reports have also emerged of Ellen not being the nicest person.
However, Ellen’s production team came to her rescue and recently rubbished all alleged reports in an interview. Her representatives said, “Telepictures can confirm it’s untrue.”
The Ellen Show has been on-air since 2003. The popular show has bagged 61 Daytime Emmy Awards and 17 People’s Choice Awards. There is also news that it has been renewed for 3 additional years. DeGeneres has continued to broadcast her show from the living room of her Santa Barbara mansion. She lives there with her wife Portia De Rossi. Ellen, is hugely popular among her audience and considered a beloved host. DeGeneres has often been described as the perfect image of positivity and happiness on the show.
However, recent behind-the-scenes reports are painting a different picture of her behavior, when the cameras aren’t rolling.
Controversies and Rumors
Recently, DeGeneres courted controversy when crew members from her show spoke out. The crew talked about their treatment during the lockdown due to the corona virus pandemic.
A group of around 30 crew members were upset after she hired an outside company called Key Code Media to film the shows. There was also mention of there being a lack of communication or transparency about their jobs.
‘Higher-ups in production would occasionally answer phone calls but reveal little’ to the crew members. A few crew members have also reportedly had their pay slashed by 40% amid changes brought about by the pandemic.
Comedian, Kevin T. Porter launched a Twitter thread that went viral on March 20. He called out anyone who encountered Ellen, to respond with “insane” stories about “Ellen being mean.”
A new staff member was told, ‘Every day she picks someone different to really hate. It’s not your fault, just suck it up for the day. She’ll be mean to someone else the next day.’ They didn’t believe it, but it ended up being entirely true.” TV writer Ben Simeon wrote in one response.
In an interview with a magazine in May, a source close to the talk show host revealed some insider details. It was revealed that the host is at the end of her tether. This is in reference to claims that her happy-go-lucky persona is just a sham. The source added saying that Ellen was under the impression that it was just sour grapes from a couple of haters. However, she soon realized that it is not a passing thing as the hits keep on coming.
