The Creator of Lovecraft Country Gives Us An Inside Look At Season 2’s Cancelled Plans

Misha Green, the creator of Lovecraft Country, has given an inside peek at what the show’s aborted second season might have entailed.

Lovecraft Country, based on Matt Ruff’s acclaimed dark fantasy novel, premiered on HBO in August 2020 and followed Jonathan Majors’ Atticus ‘Tic’ Freeman as he searched for his missing father while fighting eldritch monstrosities and the horrors of racism prevalent in the United States during the Jim Crow era.

Despite strong critical acclaim and ratings comparable to Watchmen’s, as well as 18 Emmy nominations – including Outstanding Drama Series – HBO decided not to renew the series earlier this month.

Green has been extremely vocal on social media after HBO cancelled Lovecraft Country. She praised fans for their support the day after the cancellation and gave a sneak peek at season 2’s show bible, showing a new setting and the title Lovecraft Country: Supremacy. Green later revealed that the second season would have shown zombies being herded into the central ‘Whitelands’ location depicted on the bible’s accompanying map.

Green has now revealed even more details about the program’s second season, tweeting a photo of the contents page of the show bible with the message “Just going to leave this right here” and a cheeky devil emoji.

The contents page provides relatively little material, but it does tease a wealth of interesting info, such as explanations of “the source” and “the origin,” a cheat sheet for the various sovereign nations, and plans for a possible third season.

It also listed the characters viewers may expect to see, including a return of Atticus Finch and Letitia ‘Leti’ Lewis (portrayed in season one by Jurnee Smollett).

Since announcing the show’s cancellation, fans have been clamoring for any information regarding the highly-anticipated second season, information that Green appears more than willing to provide. Lovecraft Country has also received countless requests to be taken up by another network or streaming site.

Green has just secured a multi-year deal with Apple TV to create new content for their streaming service, despite the fact that she is presently working on the Tomb Raider sequel.

It’s certainly feasible that Lovecraft Country may make a triumphant return on Apple TV in the future. They’ll have to cross their fingers and hope Green reveals more details about Season 2 shortly.
