Terry Crews Speaks Out After Gabrielle Union Slams Him Again
Terry Crews assures that he will keep apologizing to Gabrielle Union as he issues his third apology. Last week, Gabrielle slammed him yet again, calling him out for his lack of support amid her claims of racism in America Got Talent’s set.
Terry took to Twitter with his third apology and acknowledged if a fourth one is necessary he will do that. He says he will push for reconciliation between the world, and more importantly, the culture I grew up in. The actor further said he is sorry by tagging Gabrielle and with the hashtag of reconciliation.
In Jemelle Hill’s podcast, Gabrielle opened up about her views on Terry. She said that people message her all day long asking what is happening. And she says she only knows that Terry gets three checks from NBC. Gabrielle adds that she doesn’t know if he is worried about job stability because everyone that talks about racism and white supremacy, are shown the door.
Terry had previously commented on Gabrielle’s allegations of AGT and NBC during an interview on the Today show. He said that her claims of a “racist and misogynistic” workplace, was not the experience he got. At the time he said that it was the most diverse place he ever worked in. The actor added, “The top 10 acts were Asian, women, older, younger, Black, white — it was everything in the gamut.”
Further in Gabrielle’s conversation with Hill, she questioned if Terry was really a helpful ally. She said that Terry is showing people who he is and what he does during times of adversity and it’s not solidarity.
Gabrielle Slams Terry Again
Gabrielle also said that she supported Terry in 2017 when he came out sharing his alleged sexual assault by a Hollywood executive. But he did not return the favor back and offer her support amid her claims on NBC.
“Not to say if I offer you solidarity I expect you to be the getaway driver during a bank robbery — that’s what he made it sound like in one of those series of tweets,” Union said on the podcast, seemingly referring to Crews’ January tweet, which read, “Just ‘cuz you gave me eggs — don’t mean I owe you bacon.”
Gabrielle further added that if someone saw something, they should say something. She also explained how he could have been a better ally. Union said he could have said that he believes her and that he had a different experience. She added that he did not have to do a ‘press tour’ to discredit her in that way. Gabrielle also added, “You know, I’ve been in Hollywood for a very long time. There’s very little that surprises me, but that was very disappointing for sure.”
Terry acknowledged the issue in an interview with ET in June. He expressed his regret about not supporting Gabrielle when she spoke about the negative workplace at AGT. The actor admitted he is in the wrong when asked about AGT because he loves it. However, he admits that he was looking at it from a male privilege perspective. Terry said men and women are treated differently on sets.
The actor also added that when you are on the wrong, you’ve got to apologize. “When you’re wrong, you’ve got to just say, ‘Hey, I apologize, I’m sorry. Let me get back in here, and let’s do this right,'” he said.
