Ted Lasso Season 3 Will Have A Song Written By Ed Sheeran

Season 3 of Ted Lasso will feature a song written by Ed Sheeran. Apple TV+’s soccer-themed comedy premiered in August 2020 and has since firmly established itself as the streamer’s flagship series after two successful seasons.

Ted Lasso is based on the popular NBC Sports promos starring Jason Sudeikis and follows the titular American football coach, who is hired to manage a professional football team, AFC Richmond, in England’s Premier League, in an odd decision by the team’s owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham).

Rebecca’s decision was taken with the intention of tanking the team in order to get revenge on the former owner, her unfaithful ex-husband Rupert (Anthony Head). Despite Rebecca’s attempts to undermine the team and AFC Richmond’s eventual relegation to a lower league, the players, particularly Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), and Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh), grow to like their new coach due to his incomparable charm and optimism about the human condition.

Ed Sheeran shared some exciting facts about the forthcoming third season of Ted Lasso during a visit on The Jonathan Ross Show (via Collider) promoting his first studio album in four years.

Sheeran acknowledged he was “obsessed with” Ted Lasso, much to the delight of Hannah Waddingham, who was in the studio, and disclosed that he has been requested to write a song for the third season, despite his recent COVID-19 diagnosis.

Despite the fact that Sheeran didn’t say who contacted him or what type of scene the song would score, he appears to have made up his mind. This will almost certainly raise concerns about a possible guest appearance by Ed Sheeran, who famously (and controversially) appeared in an episode of Game of Thrones, another hit series in which Waddingham appeared.
