Taylor Swift Addresses Scooter Braun Selling Her Master Recording For $300 Million

Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun continue their feud as the singer took to Twitter to respond to the recent reports. It has been reported that Scooter has recently sold Big Machine Label Group.

The label includes the master rights of Taylor’s first six albums. According to an entertainment portal, the sale has exceeded the $300 million that Scooter’s company had initially paid back in 2019; in order to purchase Taylor’s former record label.

The singer tweeted two screenshots which included a lengthy message to her fans and also a letter. The letter consists of her saying that she sent the investment fund that purchased the rights to her master recordings for Scooter. She captioned the post writing, “Been getting a lot of questions about the recent sale of my old masters. I hope this clears things up.”

The singer explained how her team had hoped to make a deal with Scooter to regain ownership of her masters. However, she shared that Scooter’s side had insisted on her signing an NDA to ensure she would never speak a negative word about the manager. Because of this, the terms of the deals were unfinished.

Taylor clarified, “A few weeks ago my team received a letter from a private equity company called Shamrock Holdings; letting us know that they had bought 100% of my music, videos, and album art from Scooter Braun”. She further added that this was the second time her music has been sold without her knowledge. The Lover singer shared that they wanted her to reach out before the sale to let her know.

“Scooter’s Participation Is A Non-Starter For Me.”

She added that Scooter had required that they make no contact with her or her team or the deal be put off. The singer continued and said she was excited to be working with Shamrock. However, she shared how her feelings changed after she was informed the manager will make money off her music.

“As soon as we started communication with Shamrock, I learned that under their terms Scooter Braun will continue to profit off my old musical catalog for many years,” she wrote. “I was hopeful and open to the possibility of a partnership with Shamrock, but Scooter’s participation is a non-starter for me.”

However, despite the drama, the Grammy winner revealed that she is allowed to re-record her songs from her first six albums. She is currently signed to Republic Records and Universal Music Group. Her first few albums include Taylor Swift (2006), Fearless (2008), Speak Now (2010), Red (2012), 1989 (2014), and Reputation (2017).

She revealed that she has begun re-recording her older music which has already proven to be both exciting and “creatively fulfilling”. The singer further added that she has plenty of surprises for her fans. She also thanked her fans for supporting her through the ongoing drama. The Cardigan singer shared that she can’t wait for her fans to hear what she has been creating.

Shamrock has also pledged their support to Taylor as she returned to the studio to record her music. “Taylor Swift is a transcendent artist with a timeless catalog,” a spokesperson for the equity form told E! News in a statement. “We made this investment because we believe in the immense value and opportunity that comes with her work.”

They added how they fully respect and support her decision. Further adding, the spokesperson said how they hoped to partner formally; but clarified that they knew it could be a possible outcome. “ We appreciate Taylor’s open communication and professionalism with us these last few weeks. We hope to partner with her in new ways moving forward and remain committed to investing with artists in their work,” added the source.

Taylor has never shied away from expressing her feelings towards Scooter. She wrote on Tumblr that all she could think was the “incessant, manipulative bullying that she has received through his hands for years. Scooter has yet to comment on the recent drama.
