Stuart Binny announces retirement from all forms of Cricket

Stuart Binny, the Indian all-rounder, and son of former world-cup-winning cricketer Roger Binny, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

The 37-year-old represented India in 6 Tests, 14 ODIs, and 3 T20Is. He last featured in international cricket in 2016. On 17 June 2014 against Bangladesh Binny secured six wickets conceding only four runs surpassing Anil Kumble to have the best bowling record for any Indian bowler.

“It has given me tremendous joy and pride to have represented my country at the highest international level,” Binny said in a statement on Monday (August 30).

“I’m grateful to the coaches who encouraged me, to the selectors who put their faith in me. To the friends who shared my cricketing journey with overwhelming pride, to the colleagues who put their hearts out on the battlefield with me. To my captains who entrusted me. None of this would have been possible had it not been for my family, I stepped out on the field every day thinking about them.

Binny was a veteran in test cricket, a medium pace-bowling all-rounder, he had switched from his home state of Karnataka to Nagaland during the final phase of his cricketing career. Over a period of 17 years, Binny played 95 first-class matches, scoring 4796 runs at an average of 34.25, also having an impressive stat of 148 wickets to his name. He was an integral member of the Karnataka side during their successive Ranji Trophy victories in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Stuart featured in 100 List A matches and 150 T20s, including 95 IPL games for Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2020 IPL auction. He has also had a brief stint with the now-defunct Indian Cricket League.

“I would like to acknowledge the huge role that BCCI has played in my journey. Their support and faith over the years have been invaluable. My cricketing journey would not even have started had it not been for Karnataka and their support. It has been an honor to captain and win trophies with my state. I would also like to thank the IPL teams who have enriched my career.”

Binny is a level 2 coach with National Cricket Academy, he has now shifted focus to cricket coaching.

Stuart Binny is happily married to cricket host Mayanti Langer. They tied the knot in 2012. The couple was blessed with a baby boy in the year 2020.
