Shia LaBeouf plays the ruthless“Tax Collector” in David Ayer’s next
The Tax Collector reunites filmmaker David Ayer with his “Fury” actor Shia LaBeouf.
Ayer embraces his sinister side in the dark crime flick, which premiered its first trailer this Wednesday. Shia plays a cold-blooded crime associate who collects ‘taxes’ from gangs throughout Los Angeles.
‘Payback comes with interest’
The new crime drama, written and directed by Ayer, focuses on two men. Bobby Soto as David and Shia LaBeouf as Creeper. They both work as tax collectors for a crime boss known as Wizard. Creeper isn’t afraid to spill blood. However, he’s paired with family man David, who has much more to lose. Things take a turn for the worst when one of Wizard’s old rivals returns. Creeper and David get caught in the crossfire as David’s family is taken hostage. The high intensity crime drama, perfectly captures the dangerous cartel atmosphere. The tagline reminds viewers: ‘Payback comes with interest.’
The action-packed film also stars George Lopez, Cinthya Carmona, Brian Ortega, Jay Reeves, Lana Parrilla, Elpidia Carrillo and Chelsea Rendon.
Vintage Ayer doing what he does best
In an interview at the beginning of 2020, Ayer said “The Tax Collector” would bring his career back to the gritty and hard-hitting atmosphere of earlier directorial efforts such as “Street Kings” and “Harsh Times.” The blood-soaked, action-packed trailer is vintage Ayer. By the looks of it, he’s making a solid return to what made him a success in the first place.
“I’ve never known anyone that committed”
David was all praises for the Peanut Butter Falcon Actor. “He’s one of the best actors I’ve worked with. He’s the most committed to body and soul,” Ayer said about LaBeouf. “He had a tooth pulled on ‘Fury,’ and then on ‘Tax Collector’ he got his whole chest tattooed. So he kind of goes all in, and I’ve never known anyone that committed.”
Shia started out with TV, where the Disney Channel series “Even Stevens” was his rise to fame. LaBeouf ended up making it big and transitioned to films. He has since acted across a wide variety of genres. The Transformers actor is well known for his performances in Indie films, Honey Boy and Peanut Butter Falcon. LaBeouf was also recently named as one of the 2021 Walk of Fame Star recipients.
Release Date

By the looks of it, the film will get pushed further ahead. The Tax Collector is set to be one of the first to come to movie theaters since the corona virus led to mass closures.
