Seth MacFarlane confirms that filming on Season 3 of The Orville has wrapped

Seth MacFarlane confirms that season 3 of The Orville has concluded production and expresses his confidence for the show’s future. The sitcom follows Ed Mercer and the crew of the starship USS Orville as they travel across space on various missions for the Planetary Union, and it was created by and stars MacFarlane.

Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, and Jessica Szohr are among the series’ primary cast members.

When it first aired on Fox in 2017, critics were critical of The Orville because of its tonal inconsistencies between a loving homage to Star Trek and a campy satire of the renowned franchise. After attracting a greater audience for Fox, the series was renewed for a second season, which premiered in 2018 to widespread acclaim from critics for finding a better balance of tones and storytelling while maintaining strong ratings.

Due to repeated production delays caused by the COVID-19 epidemic since filming began in October 2019, the decision was taken to move the series to Hulu after it was previously renewed for season 3 at Fox.

The Orville season 3 has officially wrapped

The Orville season 3 production has officially ended, according to MacFarlane, after nearly two years of work on the next phase of the series. The statement was accompanied by an emotional note to his cast and crew, thanking them for their hard work on the new season and expressing his desire to reconnect for more of the series in the future.

See below for MacFarlane’s post:

In addition to MacFarlane expressing interest in returning to space with The Orville’s cast and crew, producer Tom Costantino recently stated that Hulu has not cancelled the series early, despite a false allegation to the effect.

While MacFarlane just signed a creative overall contract with NBCUniversal, The Orville’s move to Disney-owned Hulu may be a more compelling cause for the sci-fi comedy to continue for a second season.

Only time will tell how the sitcom and its season 3 launch on Hulu will fare in the future.
