Selena Gomez, David Henrie Announce Surprise Virtual Premiere For New Film

It is confirmed what Selena Gomez and David Henrie were planning for their reunion.

The duo announced on Monday that they teamed up on Henrie’s directorial debut, This is The Year. They invited fans to watch the film’s virtual premiere with them.

In a video posted about the purpose of why we saw Selena and David teasing a reunion, the duo announced the virtual premiere. Selena said that most premieres have only select number of people except this one which would include everybody. The duo said they wanted all of us to watch the movie with them.

The digital premiere will be held Aug. 28 at 4:30 p.m. PT/7:30 p.m. ET. The event is hosted by TikTok stars, Charlie and Dixie D’Amelio. Not only that but it will also have a live Q&A session with both Selena, David, the cast and a performance by lovelytheband.

The film, which Henrie wrote with Pepe Portillo and Bug Hall, follows a nerdy high school senior who, in a last-ditch effort to win over the girl of his dreams, embarks on a road trip with his friends to see their favorite band at the biggest music festival of the year.

Selena said with everything crazy that is going on in the world, this movie will definitely give us the feel good moment that we need. David is also a part of the movie alongside Lorenzo James Henrie, Vanessa Marano, Gregg Sulkin (another Wizards alum), and Jeff Garlin, Hall.

Selena is an executive producer of the film. The extra catch is that every ticket someone buys, would benefit the COVID-19 Fund Relief. The tickets are available on the film’s website.

David Had Teased A Possible Reunion Last Year

Her Wizards of Waverly Place co-star, David Henrie had previously teased Selena having an idea for their reunion. However, on Sunday, the duo shared the teaser of their forthcoming project. Selena and David shared a socially distant clip on their social media handle teasing fans about a possible reunion.

In the clip, the duo was separated by a grass wall as David panned sideways to show Selena behind the wall. David posted the clip captioning ‘hmm @selenagomez’, while Selena did the same without giving us any major clues or hints about their project.

Wizards of Waverly Place starred Henrie and Gomez alongside Jake T. Austin as three wizard siblings whose parents own a sandwich shop in New York City. The Disney Channel show premiered in 2007 and lasted four seasons.

Back in 2019, David spoke about hoping to work with his co-star, Selena again. He mentioned in one of his interviews that he and Selena had a reboot. The actor said it is not formal but they sit and talk about the project all the time. He said, “We have a whole take. We have a whole thing.”

David added that the reboot starts with the Russo family divided after the show’s finale aired in 2012. The finale showed Selena’s character, Alex Russo, chosen as the family wizard. David also had a mini-reunion with his other co-stars, Jennifer Stone and Gregg Sulkin, from the show.

Selena and Her Upcoming Projects

Selena recently announced her cooking show with HBO Max called Selena and Chef. The show premieres on August 13. She also made an announcement with her beauty line, Rare Beauty about its launch in September.

Rare Beauty and Selena both made the announcement last week that the products will launch on September 3rd. The website is updated with the missions and aims of the brand. It has the option to sign up as well so that people can receive more information about the launch.

The singer in addition made an announcement about returning to television with a comedy special with Steve Martin and Martin Short. The show will be called Only Murders in the Building. The series follows three strangers (Martin, Short, and Gomez) who share an obsession with true crime — and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one.

Selena has been the executive producer for 13 Reasons Why. She will also be the executive producer for her upcoming project with Steve Martin and Martin Short.
