Season 7 of Fear The Walking Dead Will Be a Completely Different Show

Season 7 of Fear the Walking Dead will be a radically different series, according to co-showrunner Ian Goldberg. Fear the Walking Dead, the first spinoff series from AMC’s The Walking Dead, was created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson and centred on the Clark family when it premiered in 2015.

Madison (Kim Dickens), the matriarch of the family, rose to fame early on as the series’ heroine, boldly leading her family and other Los Angeles survivors through the zombie apocalypse.

Since Morgan Jones’ (Lennie James) introduction to the series in season 4, Fear the Walking Dead has focused more on him and his mission to find more survivors.

Season 6

Following a production delay due to the pandemic, the series broadcast the first half of its sixth season in October. Season 6’s second half began in April with nine new episodes and ended in June. Morgan and the other survivors faced off against underground cult leader Teddy (John Glover) in the second half of Season 6, who is hell-bent on destroying the world with nuclear missiles.

Teddy fires a missile from a beached submarine over Texas, detonating ten nuclear warheads before Morgan can stop him, leaving Morgan and the survivors to face with a whole new apocalypse and setting the stage for a very different season 7.

Reinvention

Season 7 co-showrunner Ian Goldberg claimed during a post-season 6 livestream with TWDUniverse on Twitch (via ComicBook) that the new season will be a completely different show. With the impact from Season 6, which Goldberg predicts would “clearly shake things up in a huge way,” the new season will be a “reinvention,” he says.

Teddy’s actions at the end of Season 6 changed the game for the show, creating a new post-apocalypse within a post-apocalypse. The characters will now have to contend with a nuclear apocalyptic world like to that depicted in the Max Max films. The anthological approach to the episodes will also be fascinating to watch. The stakes are obviously high this season, and it appears that these people’ lives on Fear the Walking Dead will never be the same.
