Season 4 or 5 of Succession will most likely be the final season

Succession star Brian Cox has said that the critically praised HBO drama will likely only have one or two more seasons.

Succession, which was created by Jesse Armstrong and premiered in June 2018, soon became a critical darling for the prestige network. The much-anticipated third season of the series premiered on October 17 after lengthy COVID-related delays.

Storyline

Logan Roy, the surly billionaire owner of the Waystar RoyCo media empire, is played by Brian Cox. The series follows his ruthless offspring and inner circle as they fight for control of the business.

Season 3 of Succession takes up right after the shocking season 2 ending, with the Roy family still reeling from their eldest son Kendall’s (Jeremy Strong) betrayal. Kendall, Shiv (Sarah Snook), and Roman (Kieran Culkin), as well as Roy insiders Tom (Matthew Macfadyen), Greg (Nicholas Braun), and Gerri (Kieran Culkin), will be further divided by the ensuing power struggle (J. Smith-Cameron).

In an interview with British GQ, Cox stated that Season 4 or 5 will most likely be the final season of Succession. If Cox had his way, Succession would continue for two more seasons “before really coming to its conclusion.” However, the seasoned actor defers to the show’s writers, noting that “they have an ending in mind.” Cox believes that “people are going to want two more [seasons]” since Succession has become a cultural phenomenon. However, “they may only get one” if the writers can tie up the tale satisfactorily in season four.

Kendall’s Season

One popular fan theory claims that Succession follows a pattern of focusing each season on a different individual and their rise to power—or lack thereof—within the Roy family ranks. Season one is known as the “Kendall season,” with the focus on the eldest Roy, while season two is on the verge of passing the torch to Shiv. Season three will supposedly provide Roman an opportunity to prove himself to his snobbish father, according to the theory.
