Season 4 of Ted Lasso will be a new story, according to the creator
According to showrunner Bill Lawrence, if a fourth season of the Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso were to be made, it would have a totally new storyline.
The sports comedy, which stars Jason Sudeikis as the titular character, ended its second season on October 8th with an episode that left the futures of characters Roy (Brett Goldstein), Keely (Juno Temple), and Nate (Nick Mohammed) in particular up in the air.
With 20 Emmy nominations, the Emmy-winning series has become a hit for Apple and has become the most-nominated rookie comedy. Since Ted Lasso was renewed for a third season in October 2020, there has been discussion about how long the show will last.
New Story for season 4
With the exception of major streaming shows such as Awards show winners The Handmaid’s Tale and The Crown, streaming shows rarely make it past their first two seasons. Production costs rise, performer fees rise (Sudeikis will make a stunning $1 million per episode next season), and rating decline, all of which lead to streaming shows being canceled too soon.
Ted Lasso was supposed to be a three-season arc, according to Lawrence. From the start, storylines like Nate’s descent and Roy and Keely’s friendship were planned out over the seasons. These storylines will be resolved in the upcoming season of Ted Lasso.
Lawrence said in an interview with THR that the storylines of Nate, Roy, Keely, and the rest of the AFC Richmond supporting cast will finish with season three, regardless of whether the show survives beyond the following season.
Lawrence’s statement from the interview is below:
“When we started, we plotted out everybody’s beginning, middle and end of a three-season arc. This story is going to be over next year, regardless, even if the show finds another story to tell and goes on.
Lawrence isn’t ruling out the potential of future seasons, but he and the writers have a clear ending in mind for these individuals’ stories. Lawrence will very certainly be a part of the show if it is renewed, but it will tell a fresh storyline with new characters.
